| [TV] FIOS TV Channel Line up and Rates
Ok, sorry to double post, but the other was burried in another tread, and I felt this was worth a new one.
I just got off the phone with a Encore rep, and he sent me two Adobe PDF files. One has the channel line up, the other has the rates. The channels are for Keller, TX. We are now able to sign up for a 2 free months of service, but its a trial service. Im guessing they are working the bugs out. Anyway, all the details are in the Keller thread, just do a search. And now the links.

Hope this helps!
P.S. Im using a free file hosting site, not sure how good it is. If anyone wants to download a copy and host for us, go for it! |

Looking at the pricing sheet, I see that the Digital Service requires a STB and a Router. This may be a obvious question but how will the Router be used? |

Second, at least from my experience, when I did use comcrap I replaced about (3) units in a year. So, if they had to disconnect and re-connect I would have gone broke.. :D:D
Seriously though, I am sure that is just what they had to print on their rate sheet to cover their butts. Besides, how many of us is really going to disconnect this once we have it?? |

Looks like a standard cable TV package.
Lots of channels are still missing when compared to cable and satellite. |

| reply to troyh72 Quick question. I am just trying to get the correct picture. Which channels are going to be "pure digital", expanded basic and above, or basic and above, or just everything above expanded? Also, what requires a STB, which I guess = digital. I mean are they going to offer the non hd versions of the local channels (fox, nbc, etc.) on both analog and digital, or just analog or just digital? Just trying to understand everything. Thanks.

| reply to troyh72 One thing that seems odd and may make FIOS more expensive is the rate lineup does show any charge for Showtime or Starz. I find that hard to believe that those channels are not going to cost $$$. If it's the same price as the HBO/Cinemax package combo, FIOS will be more expensive than Cable and Satellite. Of course VZ is basically charging an HDTV package price with the HD STB costing more than a SD STB. Of course I am comparing prices to Cablevision, FYI. Then again if there is no charge for Showtime and Starz, then FIOS is not bad at all. |

Yes it does - thank you.
So, only the locals are analog. Advantage is that the 'expanded basic' package is huge compared with analog cable. Downside is that you need an STB (sigh).
Regarding the "router": somebody mentioned that the ONTs that Verizon is currently using don't support an STB return. So that's probably what the router business is about. Either they run Cat5 to the STB, or they have a gadget that converts the coax return to Ethernet for all STBs. |

They're in the "movie package" ($12/mo). |

| reply to troyh72 I'm not surprised, but the Golf Channel is not included in the line up.
I did a quick search on Google and confirmed it is owned by Comcast. My wife is a golf nut, so hopefully this won't be a deal breaker for her (she's a former LPGA Teaching Professional). |

Am I reading things right??? If I have 3 TVs and want a DVR on each one, I am going to have to plunk down a one time charge of $550 x 3 = $1,650???? Directv basically gives away their DVRs... |

said by NOCMan :okay this is definately better than my DirectTV and DirectTivo's.. How so? My D* package is Total Choice+ w/locals. Add Tivo and two additional rooms, and my monthly cost is $46 + $5 DVR fee + 2x $5 mirror fee = $61.00 (no tax). The DVR fee covers as many DVR's as you care to buy (I have 3).
The comparable Fios package is $40 + $13 + 2x $4 = $61. But, you'll most likely be hit with at least a 5% franchise fee and other cableco-style taxes, so your total cost would be something like $65 to $67. Granted, this includes HD, which D* charges $11 extra for. But if you have more than one HD set, you'll pay much more for the HD STB.
So, for a basic package, it seems to be almost a push. Better than cable, but not a death blow to satellite providers.
If you like getting a lot of movie channels, D*'s premium channels are cheaper, but Fios offers more channels in each package. IMO, Fios is better if you are a movie nut with one (and only one) HDTV set. For basic subscribers, D* is still the cheapest. If the 6-tuner DVR materializes, then the advantage swings back to Fios.
Bottom line: Whether Fios TV is better than DBS is going to depend quite a bit on what type of programming you subscribe to and how many TV's you want to hook up. It's far from a no brainer. |

I'm just hoping that this is a competitive smokescreen for the "real deal" in a few months when they start launching other markets. |

I think those prices only apply if you don't return the boxes after you cancel, or if you thrash them while you're renting them. I don't think you have the option of buying any of the STBs. |

DirecTV doesn't charge for any of that except possibly for the premises visit. Installation is generally free for every additional receiver you activate (at least it is with the direcTivos).
So far, I'm feeling a little disappointed in what I'm seeing. I'm not yet seeing any compelling reason to switch from DirecTV. |
