NNTP no longer offered as part of your contract

Just got off the phone with the Speed Crew. I had called to ask what was up with UseNet; others here had noted recently that news.speedfactory.net was resolving to a GigaNews IP, and someone had reported faster performance. But the other night I started getting 'Authentication required' errors. Well, no big surprise here, the subject line said it all...

If you want UseNet, you can go get a private account, since it's no longer part of your contract.

I like the level of support, but SF is becoming less cost-competitive every month.:(

Some sort of notice would have been nice. Right now about the only reason (other than support) to go with SF over BSFA is if you need to run servers...since I do, I'll continue to pay a premium.

I don't do binaries much if at all these days; the "free" Teranews (50MB/day) account works fine for me for text. If worse comes to worst I'll just go get a Giganews direct account...their service is good and their pricing isn't THAT bad compared to some others out there *cough*airnews*cough*
