| HDTV and Insight? Just got an HDTV ready TV, and called Insight to see if I could get an tuner for it, but they tell me that I have to rent the box for $10 a month and then add the HD Pack for 7.95. Even then, I would only get two or three channels on top of the local ones. Does this seem not worth it to anyone? $17.95 for 3 more channels than whats offered over the air? Am I missing something here? | |

1 edit | Re: HDTV and Insight? Actually let us be perfectly honest. The HD package offerings do vary slightly from area to area. Not all Insight serviced communities get the same HD channels as the others.
I currently only get 10 of the listed 12 above.

PBS HD
FOX HD
Our NBC just became ABC this week.

| Re: HDTV and Insight? I always tend to recall an older thread that covered this. Each market supposedly has to work out it's own agreements. And yes some stations are broadcasting an HD signal - while others may not be.
The replies given by Catwoman  in this thread »[News] Analog channels going digital ! are what I was talking about above. This explanation has always seemed to be a good one to me.

| I am not real pleased with there HD plans and price either. It does seem to work well for me thoug. Satalite for HD is just not an option for me until my locals are carried, and I have little hope of using an antenna here to pic up anything but WTIU pbs ( though since I went to HD it is my favorite channel. I really do like the new dual tuner DVR though, nice piece of equipment. Could use more HDD space. | |

| Yeah the HD pack currently offered is a joke. Discovery HD is the only channel worth anything from it and no way I'm paying $7.95 a month to get it. Once they beef the package up I'll consider it. The default HD lineup offered here in Louisville is adequate, no complaints from me. | |

| Re: HDTV and Insight? I'm about fifty/fifty as to keeping the HD pack. For now, it's just a novelty for me, useful to have to show off HD with, but not much to show off. Sometimes get something absolutely gorgeous on PBS or perhaps Discover. The local network affiliate HD channel (was NBC, now ABC) was a disappointment..... 4:3 with black bars on sides and poor image quality (NTSC converted to HD?).
If enough channels eventually go truly HD (not just HD signal, but actual HD content rather than converted NTSC), then it will become worth it. On the other hand, if everything just goes digital pseudo HD (converted NTSC) for compression and bandwidth conservation sake, I can see the whole thing unraveling.
While waiting for that bright and shiny "all HD all the time" day, watching DVDs via a 480p player feeding an HD television or monitor (especially Pixar's straight-to-digital movies) is a joy. | |

Knightstown, IN | I feel lucky that the Indianapolis market has ABC, CBS, NBC, and FOX all broadcasting in HD... and true HD at that. Of course there are some shows that aren't broadcast in HD by the networks, but a lot are. | |

Me too, espnHD is probably gonna keep me thre once Football and Basketball season start though, DiscoveryHD is nice also. I never watch HDnet or HDnet Movies. THe pack is not a verygood value, but I really wan't those 2 channels. I jost hope as more channels go HD they add them to the pack without raising price or making additional packs. | |

I complained and complained for months about their poor HD lineup and finally I got tired of complaining.
I went to DISH and get about 20 HD channels now. And they are planning to add another 10-20 channels over the next year I'm told. | |

| I just cancelled the HD pack with Insight. $7.95/month for 4 (ESPN, Discovery, HD Net and HD Net Movies) HD channels is too much. I watched ESPN the most, but only because of baseball games. I will most likely pick up that pack again in March when baseball starts again or if they add a few more channels that interest me before then. | |

After watching the games I think that must be true, the quality is poor. Though it seems to really be wide screen. Not a very good feed either way. I find it sad I enjoy away games more than home. | |
