Re: Google seems slow for the first time ever

I've noticed no problems.. then again I've been using a filter in Proxomitotron that eliminates the "spying" for me.

Proxomitotron is a nice little web proxy that is easy to configure to do things like stripping ads.

Google has changed, and is now intercepting all the clicked on search results you have. The script I offered is from a package which works with Firefox or Opera, it avoids the intercept and speeds up linking by interfering with Google's script.

Well, I do use Firefox, however the slow down occurs for IE as well, across all google services, it actually seemed to pickup lastnight/this morning, but as of right now it's slow again, all other sites are fine and my speed tests are still knocking on 16Mbps.

I've noticed this sine yesterday, google's main site slow, gmail slow, google adsense ads loading slow, everything google, slow.

Everything else, fine.
The cure if you use Firefox or Opera can be found here - »www2.dslreports.com/forum/remark···14336767 it gets rid of the scripted google tracking links.

It would appear google is now using active scripting to intercept clicked links. That is you believe you are going to say www.nytimes.com, but really you are going to redir.google.com/someapp?www.nytimes.com I suspect when initially implemented they were a bit slower about this.

I have found a way to prevent the active script redirection from happening, and speed appears to be normal again. However heads up folks, google is intercepting ALL your clicked links off a google search result.
I am surprised that it took them that long. Yahoo has been doing it for at least 5 years. Most links to internal and external locations goes through a redirector. It is the only way to get meaningful statistics. Some is used for marketing and some for design and content presentation improvements.

Also Google has a patent on sorting found results with most clicked sites presented first (as well some other criterias, like # of references to a site). Not so sure how it can be used without a redirector. It is the only way to count clicks. Now I even doubt that Google had direct links ever.

I'm on Comcast and I have seen this Google slow down too the last week or so. Don't know the reason, but other web sites and downloads as quick as always.

For the first time ever, my speed seems great, but Google seems darned slow. Is Google affected by the hurricane?
