Just got my Charter Pipeline going.... I've got a new Motorola 5120 modem. The box states that it is:
"Enhanced with TurboDOX Bandwidth Optimization Software: can further boost download speeds by up to 20 times."
But I can't find _any_ reference to TuroboDox in the manual. What is it? I assume some sort of data compression? What do I gain/lose by turning it on? Will it work with streaming media?
TIA

I wouldn't worry about using it. Just visit the tools page here and run a tweak test. |

Sounds like it limits upstream usage to always allow enough bandwidth for ACKs to be sent in a timely manner. |

@nc.charter | Is this 20x increase reflected in any of the speed tests? When running the test tools, my download speed remains ~3MB. |

That software is not necessary. |

| reply to rs99 It's an upstream throttler, some people complain that when they are using something like ftp to upload files there downstream falls apart. It's because of the asynchorous nature of most broadband that the upstream is capped below the downstream and more vunerable to oversaturation.
In short this always reserves enough bandwidth to send ACK/SYN packets to keep the downstream moving in situations where your maxing the upstream. |
