like what you have to say. I am so frustrated with the nation thinking that Bush or the Government could have prevented this. Why is everything so political? Here is what one victim said. This victim lost everything in Katrina, job, house; their neighbors are dead.

It is not the government’s responsibility to have the National Guard waiting right outside New Orleans for a disaster to strike. This is a horrible disaster but I have my life and it will go on somewhere else in the US.” |

not to sit here and compare tragedy to tradegy, but get over yourself. Miami was in shambles after Andrew. Instead of sitting at your computer and being an ass how about you do something to help the situation? |

Compassion from "liberal Western Europeans" as well as the willingness to help is there. Many over here follow closely and with compassion what's happening in the U.S. Believers are praying, atheists don't, but everybody wants this nightmare to end soon.
As for practical help: Germany has offered boats, blankets, electricity generators, ... but all of that was turned down. Likewise the German sections of the Red Cross were not contacted by the American Red Cross for help.
Why? I think (and hope) that it isn't because of a sick sense of pride, but because the people in charge realize that the U.S. is not a 3rd world country. So the need for help here in the U.S. is different from other situations when disasters strike in poorer countries.
For that same reason India turned down help after the Tsunami. Many mistook that as India trying to prove that they are better than the rest of the affected countries. But their prime minister just did his part to make sure that international efforts are distributed in the best manner. And compared to others India was strong enough to help itself. India would have been better off accepting international help. But they saw that others needed this help even more.
To put this into perspective: Thousands are near death today in Africa of hunger and thirst and malaria and AIDS and they need more but have less help, although a continuous effort of Europeans, North and South Americans, Asians, Australians and yes, Africans, too, is made, directed by the UN, the Red Cross and so many others.
Once more: The world isn't blind when people in the U.S. suffer. We see the pain and get angry in our helplessness when we hear that looters shoot at rescue personnel.
Unfortunately, however, the frequent blindness (as in this case) of the U.S. sometimes does make people abroad suffer, emotionally and physically. Trying to abuse this disaster to build an image of the good U.S. and the bad rest of the world doesn't help. |

I sympathize with your position, and I pray for your family.
In all reality, it is disingenuous to blame the government. I was watching the news today, and I saw a lot of government helicopters and supplies being unloaded at the superdome.
Truth is, things are so bad no one can get in via land. Most helicopters are being used to pull people off rooftops, and it looks like an entire US city has been wiped out.
Could anyone have prepared for this? Would anyone here honestly believe that an entire major US city could be wiped off the map? It's indeed a sad situation, but trying to pass blame off on anyone is probably an emotional reaction.
Everyone has to avoid playing this blame game crap and band together. The only people deserving of blame are people who relatively unaffected by this national tragedy, do nothing to help.
As others here have done, I urge everyone to donate what they can to the charity of their choice. I know several are listed at the link of FEMA's web site at

In closing, I strongly urge people to be leery of opportunists who pop up in such times of national emergency. Be careful who you give your money to in the name of hurricane relief. |

How someone from California can comment about what happened to Florida after Andrew only shows your ignorance.If you weren't here you have no clue. When there's no communications,all the major highways damaged, most of the infrastructure destroyed and most of the local roads impassable it's going to take time for aide to reach the people that need it most. Your attempts to politicise the issue will not make things better for the victims.

As I recall Miami was not as affected as New Orleans has been with Katrina.I don't recall hundreds of people stuck on thier roofs waiting and praying to be rescued.I also don't recall over 80 percent of Miami being underwater.You can say whatever you want the people of Louisiana know that help was not given as quickly as it should have been and I will say one thing they ain't blaming the local government.Also did you know the Presidant had the nerve to call the gov of MS and ask to do a visit but did not bother to ask the gov of LA the same thing?Oh wait I forgot the Mayor and Gov. in LA are democrats could that have something to do with it? |

man your bitching about a few days? the national guard didnt show up in miami after andrew until two weeks AFTER the emergency operations manager was crying and begging on TV for aid to help us down here... that of course was after all the politicans made their press-confrences to look good, they were all down here the next day and promptly left |

did you hear me critisciing the locals?NO you heard my frustration with the Nation.....I have family there that i have been in contact with via text message...the media is not reporting all that is happening and is reporting false information.They are just now trying to seal the levees today when it was reported they were working on it yesterday so says the Mayor of New Orleans.The cops that you see supposedly looting are actually takinf supplies for the people not for themselves as they have no communications and no supplies.The bottom line is FEMA and all the other federal agencies were slow to respond.PLain and simple.Do you have family in the South DSLTech?Yes?No?Didn't think so.A lot of poeple in New Orleans are wondering the same exact thing I was.Where is the help?Where's the Presidant.Where's the Gaurd.I wasn't tryingto make it political just spelling and telling it like it is.The bottom line is he is only doing what is asked of him when in this situation we need more than what is asked.I would LOVE for the oppurtunity to ask the rest of the world where the aid to the Gulf Coast is.One damm thing is for sure if Mr Bush would have just signed the wetlands bills maybe there might have been more money and more resources to deal with this calamity.You Mr.DslTech are an ass. |

I don't know about the UN, but as a skilled Canadian in the trades I have been turned around at the border before, or not allowed to use my trade is said disaster zone.
Some of the reasons you may not get AID is simply because of government Local/State or federal restrictions from non US citizens.
As for sending money? Sure I'll send some cash...

The Nat'l Response was there before the hurricane hit. Maybe you should drive to the area to see for yourself. Oh wait you can't - maybe the same logistical problem that the gov't is having.
Why does everything have to be political????
Bush flying over the area would only have a symbolic affect. Do you think he would do more than he is already doing now. He has authorized everything asked of him for this tragedy.
How can you sit in the comforts of your San Diego Home complaining about what the people on the ground are doing?
Why don't you yell at the UN for not convening and the liberals in western Europe for not sending any aid over? Where are they when natural disasters hit us?

| This should have been posted first thing monday morning, but like everything else too little is being done too late.Where the hell is the National Gaurd and the Military and why hasn't the President done a REAL flyover.Maybe Mr.Bush should spend a night out on a roof with water rising all around him.Before you guys jump all over me I have family down there some made it out some didn't. |
