You are a complete and abject fool. How do you know none of them worked? Or those that didn't work chose not to? I suppose you've never fallen on hard times, gotten sick and been unable to work, been hit with an unexpected bill or expense, etc. The "working poor" are a very real and sizable group.

Your comment smacks of the idea that wealth equals worth of human life. Few things are as low and contemptable as that.

Should you ever fall upon hard times, I hope the person/people you depend upon for help do NOT share your moronic mindset. And so should you.

That's rather blunt, however, I do have to concur on a wider scope that the area was not meant for human inhabitance. If the nation were intelligent, they would not allow these areas to be rebuilt (only to be blown apart/flooded again with the next hurricane). Living below sea level is just plain suicidal. There is almost no amount of government planning that can avert a Cat 5 hurricane with up to 200 mph wind gusts. And when these regions get into trouble, it costs the whole nation money, both in recovery efforts and also in terms of supply shortages for the vital resources routed through those ports.
The states of LA and AL need to do some serious thinking about reallocating the land area for habitation. There are going to be far more hurricanes, some even worse than Katrina, in the coming years, and maybe even in the coming months.
That said, it's very sad that individual families are suffering, as many of them were born there and don't have much opportunity to get out of the bowl.

You can thank the French and their infinite wisdom for the location of New Orleans. That city's been there since before the United States purchased the territories when the Louisiana Purchase took place.

call the American Red Cross at 1-800-HELP-NOW. You don't have to give an extraordinary amount, just give what you are able too. I encourage everyone of you decent people here to donate, people are in need and its getting worse. Please call now.
Um, so you have to be a decent person to donate to the Red Cross according to your post?

I'm sure that the Red Cross would accept donations if you're nekkid too.
