Digital cable box question.

I called charter last night to request another box.The guy told me they are having a shortage and there is a strict limit of 1 box per customer and to call again in a few months.I don't want to wait a few months and i'm thinking of buying a box of ebay.

What type of box should I look for?How will I know if the box will be compatible with charter?

Have a sneaky suspicion none would be compatible as Charter would have to activate it. But others would know better.

Digital boxes purchased on ebay, are for the most part, stolen boxes. Or are ones that are defective that someone has purchased on a liquidation sale. Charter, along with most if not all other Cable Co's, will not activate them for use in their systems.

Don't waste your time or lose your money for these on ebay.

all_in_1 is exactly right.

We have had some customers calling in and wanting a box activated that they bought at a "Yard Sale"

Right now we cannot activate a DCT that is not in our inventory or in someone else's name. That is why these Ebay boxes and Yard Sale boxes won't work so don't waste your money on these.

We have a problem with people disconnecting and not returning their box(es). Unfortunately that is probably keeping us from getting more purchased. We have an aggressive campaign here to retrieve these lost boxes.

And just to add an FYI, at this time I have heard of a shortage of DCT's I'm sure this will be a temporary thing, but for now they are in limited supply.

Thanks for the info, usually I just buy stuff without doing research and end up with something that doesn't work. You saved me so money and I guess I can tough it out for the few months.

Another question I have is:Is charter DVR available in the st.louis area 63136?
