Re: FiOS is being installed in M.D.U.'s !

to answer JTrockwell for deployment ...Verizon is hitting all their areas...i engieered maps for a place where i live 4 minutes from called Nuccio; a place where i can score some cooked crack or pressure aka narcotics. then to high class areas such as Palmea Ceia or New Tampa. like i stated before Verizon is converting their copper to fiber in florida and other states where their contract is active; just a matter of time. i do stress contracts cause the St. Petersburg area has a contract with Knology some brain dead company and Verizon does not have exclusive rights to that area til '07 or sooner.

epfenning is correct. As I've stated on multiple occassions, Huntington Beach already has three complexes wired in the manned he described, with alot more soon to come. I dont however have a list of which are next though. But I will let you know, when I hear something.

When I want a honest answer to a question I just ask. So here goes, does any one on this board living in a MDU have Fios yet? My Maryland residence is a brand new apartment in Odenton, MD and Fios isn't being offered here yet.

BTW, Verizon is now offering it's DSL services for $15 a month to people that sign a contract. That's a pretty good deal but I think a flat fee of $20 a month(without a contract) would be a more sincere gesture in the eyes of many broadband subscribers.

epfenning: Uhmmmmmm exclusive contracts were struck down by the courts in some areas. Not sure about federal policy yet however. Then you have the exclusivity contracts between buildings and providers.

In NYC, there is NO exclusive rights where I am for the city. We have RCN (Equivalent of Knology), Verizon copper and Time Warner Cable in my MDU. I do not know however if there is an exclusive which can prevent Verizon FIOS from coming in. Its up to the contract the co-op board has signed. By the front of the building I used to see RCN + Time Warner flyers for service. If we have Verizon POTS as well as RCN AND Time Warner, Im wondering if Verizon will be able to come in with FIOS? But if they come in with FIOS, doesnt this deactivate the buildings copper wiring? Or is this in addition to the existing POTS?

I suspected that due to Verizon's overwhelming financials resources that MDUs would come online en mass AFTER the MCI merger is finalized by year end.

I doubt you'll get a response being that there are only three complexes wired up in the whole nation. But its something that Verizon will start pushing in the manner that was described.
