| What Is This??
Was reading BBR, and all of a sudden I got this error msg: »launchmodem/redirectBS.htm WARNING! Unable to resolve your redirection DNS entry Please clear browser cache close and then reopen it to try again Press OK to close browser
When I did this the browser would not close, and any website i tried thereafter, I got this same Launchmodem screen. Finally had to shut down completely, unplug modem(Westell C90-610030-06) and then reboot, to be able to pull up any website. Cold boot did no good. Could not even get into Launchmodem! What the heck was that??

If its not chronically repetitive, and that fixed it... wouldn't worry too much. |

-jen I think Hayward made a pretty good guess. If it's only happened once, who knows? |

| reply to RJ44 I've seen this dozens of times over the last few weeks. The most recent occurrence lasted about an hour last Friday morning.
When it happens, DSL will be up, all lights green on the Westell, and the stats look OK. I can send and receive email. But attempting to surf to any page displays this html content:
"Redirect Server: Rapid Logic/1.1 MIME-version: 1.0 Connection: close Content-Type: text/html Location:»launchmodem/redirectBS.htm"
Sometimes instead it will be:
"WARNING! Unable to resolve your redirection DNS entry Please clear browser cache close and then reopen it to try again Press OK to close browser."
However, clearing the browser cache and restarting the browser has no effect on the problem.
Seems to be a separate issue from the thunder/lightning induced outages which have been occurring every afternoon recently. This problem generally occurs under a clear sky with no audible thunder. Surfing just stops, but connectivity is not lost, because email and ftp both work.
>>A Brain (OS/driver/IE) Fart
Doubtful. I've seen it happen even even in lynx (text-only unix browser).
Since the html includes "launchmodem", I assume it comes from the modem, but it's not because the modem can't connect. The modem will be connected, all LEDs lit, and show good stats when this happens, and as I mentioned email works. |

| reply to -jen This message does come from the modem. The only time I have seen it given is when something was trying to reroute DNS packets to a different server besides the ones that are assigned to the modem. AOL software remains are a big culprit of causing this message. |

| 100% AOL free zone here (except for the moments it takes to move their discs from incoming mail to the trash).
FWIW, I've had this happen with the modem set to use Bellsouth's DNS servers and when set to the Verizon 4.2.2.x servers. |

| reply to tel601 No AOL on my box. Never was, never will be! BS Dns servers are in my modem. No other DNS servers in my system... Could use email and Usenet without any problems. This is weird! Hope someone can find the answer to this. Has me a bit worried...

@bellsouth.net | Yes, I had found that too. I had already tried ipconfig /flushdns several times. Did no good. This occured on both IE and Firefox. Nothing got me back on the web except shutting down, unplugging the modem, waiting a while, rebooting...

| reply to -jen Yes. Thanks for this thread. I knew someone would post this if it was happening anywhere else.
It's been going on the last three or four days...usually when I shut off my computer for the night and boot up again in the morning...as I have just now. Using Firefox or IE and trying to go to any web page. Would changing the setting on the modem to "always on" help? I'm using the Westell 6100 modem still using good ole Windows 98SE. |

| Has anyone tried simply powering down the modem for 30 seconds (pull the power plug), and powering it back up? It may simply be that a "re-boot" of the modem is necessary to reset the TCP/IP stack in the modem, especially after thunderstorms.
A great tool to reset TCP/IP in Windows is WinsockFix:
Windows All builds - »www.majorgeeks.com/download4372.html
Win 9x may need the VB runtime library, see the link below:
W2Fix is a Windows 9x tool developed at Boston University. It works very well, but only on Win 98, 98SE and Win Mil.
Windows 98, 98SE, Mil only - »www.bu.edu/pcsc/internetaccess/w···fix.html
Both these programs have worked for me on many occasions when I have had similar issues, especially after removing SpyWare.
Use a running machine to download either, and transfer to your broken machine via floppy disk - or have a friend e-mail it to you if you can get e-mail.
Hope this helps.
