| [DSL] Networking with AOL Broadband (UK).
Hullo,
I know you'll get annoyed but i've had a quick look and cant find anything that helps. Apologies if this is yet another topic on the same thing.
I have two Windows XP computers networked together via a crossover cable. This computer has AOL broadband 9.0 using an external BT Voyager 100 ADSL modem. The crossover cable is inserted into network cards on each computer.
At the moment the network allows me to share files and printers on each computer but i want to be able to share the internet too, so that the internet can be used on both computer at the same time.
I've done a few things and at the moment the 'network connections' screen on the other computer (without the internet - Computer B) has two sections; 1) LAN or High Speed Internet - Local Area Connection - Enabled - "network card model". 2) Internet Gateway - Local Area Connection 2 on computer A - Enabled.
The 'Network Connections' screen on this computer (computer A) has two sections, 1) LAN or High Speed Internet - Belkin (renamed by me)- Connected, Firewalled - "network card model" and also under this heading - Local Area Connection 2 - Connected, Shared, Firewalled - Globespan USB ADSL LAN Modem. The picture next to this has a hand which also appears on the folders shared across the network. 2) Dial-up - AOL Diagnostics Test - Disconnected, Firewalled, PPPoEWin Miniport.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

| What you'll want to do is create a connection without the AOL software. There is a thread on how to do this in the UK (NOT THE STICKIES AT TOP). Once you've done that you can simply use Windozes networking wizards to set up internet connection sharing. |

| Yeah we have had the same pb, it is because AOL is CRAP! Seriously they suck. They do everythg to avoid you from sharing your broadband...
So what you want to do is avoid using the software (AOL 9.0). For this you have to uninstall it, uninstall the modem as well. Restart your computer and install the modem only (drivers are on the CD). Once it is done, go to the connexion panel in Windows. Create a new connection that you set up yourself using your login and password for AOL. Then you should be able to connect without needing the software. You can then share that connection. |
