| Re: [Modem] Westell 6100 with Linksys WRT54G + webcam said by beechbum :haha, wow. I have been trying to do the SAME THING! Except for the fact that I was trying to set up the cam at a friend house. He has: The same modem, I have the same camera, and he's also got the exact same router! I spent two more days on the phone with Linksys technical support, and they couldn't figure out what the problem was, and why the ports weren't opening.
After digging around the net for a few days, I found another forum that post from people who were having the same problem. Its a problem with the router firmware! Turns out, for some reason, it doesn't effect everybody. But in a few cases the firmware and router just screws up port forwarding.
The solution on the forum was to use a third party firmware for the router. This bothered me since I didn't know much about the 3rd party, and did want to risk it. So I went to Best Buy, bought a new D-Link DI-524 ($19.95 after all the rebates).
But because I was curious, I went ahead and flashed the 3rd party firmware on the Linksys router, just to see if it worked. Bingo! all the ports I needed opened up. And everything worked like it was suppose to. Because I didn't trust the 3rd party firmware, I immediately flashed the firmware with the official Linksys firmware to return it back to normal. Disconnected the router and threw it into the closet.
Hooked up the D-link, set it up in 5 minutes, and everything, including the cam worked perfectly.
Seems like Linksys would know about the firmware problem. Or they do know about it, and don't know what the fix is since it seems to only effect a few cases. |
