encryption not working??

Hello,

Just a quick question. I have set up my router (linksys wrt54g) to use wpa2-psk aes using a 63 character key, and the windows wifi monitor indicates that wpa2 is enabled. However when scanning my computer with ethereal all the packets don't appear to be encrypted. Is that normal, because I'm scanning my own machine, or is my security borked?

Thanks in advance

Re: encryption not working??

What interface are you sniffing on?
If you're sniffing on your local machine you might be sniffing before the encryption occurs.

It's entirely normal, because you're sniffing traffic on a network that you already hold the key to.

Fire up a linux-live distro with a wireless NIC that supports rfmon mode, then trying to use ethereal. You'll soon discover that you aren't seeing plaintext anymore.

Re: encryption not working??

Thanks, that's all I wanted to know. Kind of new to the whole wifi thing, and couldn't come up with the right combination of words to google an answer.

Thanks again
