Bandwidth increases in future? Anyone know?

Just wondering if any insiders know if Shaw has any plans to increase monthly upload/download limits in the future? Right now its 50 gigs for the xtreme package. Would be nice if they raised it to 75+ gigs per month considering others offer unlimited...

It would also be nice if the government took away the GST considering other countries don't have a national sales tax, but that's not going to happen either.

These bandwidth limits have been in place for years and they probably won't change soon, and not without a change in speed, I would imagine.

who is unlimited? Telus is or so rumors now claim starting to enforce their much lower caps. I have heard 3 web is now enforcing at least some caps in some areas...

60GB on the Enhanced package with TELUS, but I doubt they will enforce it any time soon.

Also, for the other poster: Shaw did raise their speeds, but not their caps.

Telus = 10Gb regular cap, 60gb high cap
Shaw = 20gb regular, 50 high
3web = 20-30gb reg, 50-60 high (they're pretty loose on it)

As far as I know, there is not a single provider in north america (with exception of FIOS maybe) that has no caps.. they all have one, shaw just enforces more.

Shaw's regular high-speed accounts are now 30gb/month of data transfer. This has just been raised from 20gb/month.

Bell Canada (Sympatico) does not have a cap, nor does Primus (BC).

Also FYI, you are wrong about TELUS 1.5 Cap:

Consumer
Telus high speed Lite 1 GB/month
TELUS high speed 1.5 30 GB/month
TELUS Consumer Enhanced 2.5 60 GB/month
TELUS Home Networking 60 GB/month
Business
TELUS high speed Office 2.5 70 GB/month
TELUS high speed Server 2.5 80 GB/month
TELUS high speed Server 4.0 100 GB/month

"Shaw's regular high-speed accounts are now 30gb/month of data transfer. This has just been raised from 20gb/month."

Really ? from my understanding the AUP really has no specified limit, and it's dependant on where you live (node congestion).

For the last two months, i've downloaded over 60 gigs and have gotten no warnings.

Prior to, five months ago, i downloaded 40 gigs in one month and got a warning.

Davisx is right, I beleive. I think Victoria is the one of the only locations in BC that have the 30gb limit.

Also shaws business packages include 70-100 gb of traffic a month.

As of the 5th of July I got this from Shaw:

"For our Shaw High Speed Internet service, we ask that your usage remain within an approximate guideline of 20GB total traffic (download/upload combined) per month."

I'm in the lower-mainland.

Damn wish Shaw would get with the times. I'd be happy with that.

You mean 40gbytes over? We're still officially limited to 50gbytes but I guess your right that they will normally let you get away with 60. I've even pushed it to 70 without a warning... Normally I'm under 65. But if they gave us a 100 gbyte limit I'd probably push 110.

I hope Shaw doubles it. In real world terms, I need 3GB/day to do everything I need to do (heavy browsing, e-mail, Video chat, updates, musc background stuff (70MB/day when my computer is sitting idle!), Podcasts, Photo uploads, iDisk Sync (soon to be 1GB), IPTV shows (From the Shadows, Systm 100% legal downloads), and coming September 18 TWIT in video that's going to kill the bandwidth. Shaw needs to increase the bandwidth, I think 100GB is the sweet spot and they will see allot of Telus business from that. Also make the SOHO package have more bandwidth then eXtreme-I (say 25% more) and allot of us will move to that.
