AVG Free can't update....

Hi all...I just downloaded AVG Free on my in-laws PC...I got it installed ok but when I go to update it says the internet connection failed, when in fact it did not. No firewalls, no routers, etc. Straight connection from modem to PC...any ideas? Thanks.

I think they have really overloaded servers used for AVG Free updates. Either try later or upgrade to their Pro version.

Working now...

Had the same problem for two days.

You can always go to their homepage and download their definition list manually.

Just move the file into the Grisoft folder and it will ask you if you want to replace the existing file with this new one. Just click yes.

"Where am I" I asked. "Your on the Island of Conclusions" he replied. "How did I get here?" said I. "Why you jumped here, of course"

This is caused by an overloaded server. You can wait and try at different times (off peak) or update manually. A good set of instructions for manually updating has been posted by one of the mods over in the free forum. »forum.grisoft.cz/freeforum/read.···age=,sv=

I'm sad to hear they haven't fixed this. It really makes it hard to recommend AVG Free to anybody, unless one also tells them to hack around the update problem.

I understand the economics of it, but if the product doesn't update reliably, even "Free" is too high a price.

Sad.

I'm sure it gets mighty frustrating when this happens but it is not near as frequent as it used to be. I updated 2 Free installations today without any delays or problems. I can't even recall the last time I ran into any server overloads but as seen by some posters, it still occurs. I would be frustrated as well if it took a few days to get an update.

Sounds like a good time to uninstall AVG and try:

1. Avast
Or
2. AntiVir

What the heck was that? I didn't say that struck-through portion at all.

Anyhow, if it weren't for the tweak I'd have dumped it myself. They'll eventually close the hole and force our hands.

lol, you are so right, that wasn't part of your post at all. I don't know what happened there, I did an Auto Quote and there must have been a site hiccup or something.

I don't know about the rest of you, but this is the first time in months that I have had any problem whatsoever grabbing the updates. Personally, I will continue to recommend AVG.
