Speed ?

I have a client who we give 2 mb download 768 upload. He is out at 2.4 miles from the tower. When I test the speeds at the tower the speeds are 1780 kbps down & 680 kbps up. The problem I am having is at his location I get 1090 download & 630 upload. He is the only one on the link and AP with a dedicated line for himself. What I do not understand is why he can get the upload but not the download. Pings are in the 6ms range with no packet lose. I have tried everything from changing the antennas, radios, height and so on with out any change. One thing I see is when I do a site survey I get in the 90% all the time but when I connect the client the signal goes down in the 20% and stays there on the site survey. I have changed radios as well but have the same problem. What could be causing the problem? I am using 2.4 Deliberant 1300s for the link. We have links farther than this without any issues. Why would he be able to get the full upload but only half the download? Any ideas? I am sure I will have to break it down but this is an over all idea of what is happening. Very crucial client as well. Thanks

Is Your fresnel zone clear?, it sounds to me like maybe something is blocking it, and that's why You can associate but have slower thruput. When You do the site survey, where is Your test radio in relationship to Your customers CPE?

Wouldn't your first problem be that you are getting slower than promised speeds at the tower

Not trying to be a wise ass, but I wouldn't promise a bustable 2Mbps down if you can't even get that at your tower. Maybe I just misread your post.

Anyway, back to your question. Have you tried throwing a high gain YAGI on the SU to see if that improves things? Sounds like the combo of signal strength and/or interference is preventing the download speeds you are wanting. The fact that you are hitting your upload isn't surprising, hitting 600kbps up should be much easier than hitting 2Mbps down. Now if you were getting 2Mbps up but couldn't get 2Mbps down then that would be surprising.

Client is about 400 ft. higher than our tower. Actually it is not a tower it is a base station that is only 36ft tall on a 2 story building. We have a clear line of site from the clients location to the base station. I can not see from the base station to the client since the base station is a pole so I can not see the client from the roof top of the building but I can see the building from the clients location.

Q: Wouldn't your first problem be that you are getting slower than promised speeds

A: The speeds at the tower I mentioned are the slowest speeds we get on the 2 mb line. This is ADSL and we do not get an actual dedicated 2 mb. No other providers around so we have to get what we can so at this time we have no other choice.

I think I will try a 24 db grid on both ends to see what happens. Thank for the help.
