[Speeds] I get only half-speed since July began!

Help!

I came back from vacation only to receive speeds of 1800-2000 kbps. This is barely half my avg. speeds of 3400-3600 kbps. Insight says nothing has changed on my connection for four months now, and the line quality is clear so they say it must be my PC. Even though they could not find any spyware, adware or viruses, plus the fact that no changes have been made to the PC for an even longer period. They also repeated over and over that they do not guarantee speeds, and there was nothing they could do.

There is one thing that is very odd, every speedtest I do consistently averages between 1800-2000 for the entire month of July, except for one. Chi.Speakeasy.Net reports astoundingly fast speeds of 4200-4300. I have never had speeds anywhere close to this, ever. All other Speakeasy sites consistently report 1800-2000, except for Chicago's. And my internet experience over the last month leads me to believe that this is some sort of anomaly.

Has anyone else experienced this?
What can I do to troubleshoot this problem?

I am on InsightBB in Anderson, IN 46011 (4000-384)

I look forward to your prompt, courteous and detailed responses.

Sincerely,

J.T.

Any chance yo use Zone Alarm fire wall, and it got upgraded?? Version 5+ has been known to cut speeds in half on some machines

No, I use NIS 2005, but uninstalled it because the Insight Tech said CCproxy.exe could possibly be the reason for the slow down. Rebooted and did a test with absolutely no firewall and got same results. I then found the "Speed Problems" Thread that related to me directly.

»Speed Problems

It ticks me off that they blame the customer for poor speeds, when they know it is their upgrades that are causing the problems. I wasted hours trying to troubleshoot my system, after they practically refused to schedule a service call saying they don't guarantee speeds, and threatened to charge me $50 if the tech did not find anything. So I balked on my demand for a service call, and kept digging thru my PC looking for the non-existent needle in a haystack.

I finally confronted the fourth tech with the Speed Problems thread, and he freely admitted that the poor speeds were due to the upgrade, and should be remedied by the middle of August.

One of the other guys got a free month. But I was repeatedly lied to, and wasted hours troubleshooting a problem they knew did not exist. I want to be fairly compensated for my futile efforts. Any Advice?

Thanks!

The blank blaming of ZoneAlarm is getting just a bit old. And is not always the case. As I stated in the other thread »ZoneAlarm cuts download by half I'd hold off on upgrading to 6.0 for at least another week. My opinion as to why that is. Can be found in a Security forum thread »ZoneAlarm V6 is released I'll be adding more to that opinion on my blog today.

With that said. Your not the only one seeing speed related issues do to the recent maintenance.

Other users in this forum have reported similar issues. My money is on this being an Insight issue. Not user specific. Now getting them to acknowledge this or to do something about it. That is another matter entirely.

I'm hoping to blog on the issue this week. I did an article last week in regards to my speed issue and Insight.
