Did anyone else here about this. My buddy received a letter asking him to be a BETA tester for a 20/2 optonline connection using existing 5120 modem that he has.,..

and i got an invite for that as well

As an Optimum Online customer, we value your feedback. We know you recognize the power and value of high-speed Internet access. So, today, we would like to provide you with an exclusive invitation, not available to everyone, to participate and provide feedback on a new, even faster level of Optimum Online service.

Please be assured there is no additional cost to you to participate. The beta test will run until October 1, 2005, during which time your Optimum Online connection will give you maximum speeds up to 100 percent faster than it does currently — up to 20 Mbps downstream and up to 2 Mbps upstream. See the charts below for details on the increased speed you can experience.

We only ask that you give us periodic feedback on your experience with the new Optimum Online service.

At the end of the beta test period, you will have the opportunity to upgrade to a new level of Optimum Online service, which includes higher speeds and other enhanced features.

Please note that in order to remain an active participant during the beta test, you must remain an active Optimum Online customer in good standing.

Thank You,
The Optimum Online Team

To participate in the beta test, it is FREE. When the beta test ends, all selected customers will return back to their regular speeds.

Looks like perhaps some sort of tiered system will finally be rolled out around 10/05.

When you get it, don't forget to retweak. I would start at 128480. If that does give you close to 20mb down, go up to 192720 in 16060 increments. You really should not have to go higher than that.

Please post back on what RWIN you settle on.

Also, the regular speeds tests won't work for crud, so use an FTP DL to get your speeds.

If you have windows XP, let windows handle the RWIN settings. It will handle that best to be honest.

I can clock the following on the NYC test from my work connection. Whether it's accurate or not, I don't really know.

Download Speed: 38737 kbps (4842.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 7725 kbps (965.6 KB/sec transfer rate)

Download Speed: 38752 kbps (4844 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 8968 kbps (1121 KB/sec transfer rate)

Download Speed: 39216 kbps (4902 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 8036 kbps (1004.5 KB/sec transfer rate)

it doesn't always properly handle my G wireless RWIN... setting it to 32767 and limiting my throughput. I hard coded it and it was never an issue - full OOL speeds all the time.

Well, then I guess, leave it to have XP auto handle it, but if you notice slowdowns, or you just want to tweak because we like to do that here, go ahead and tweak away

I have to disagree. As the line rate goes up (say past 10mb or so down), XP just does not know what to do. The VZ FIOS folks talked to M$ and they recommended something like 356XXX or something like that.

Cox has gone to 15/2 in some areas and XP did not go over the 65xxx number. Some folks have used 128480 while others are using something around 156xxx.

From what I understood, if you had it set to the default in XP, it showed 65535, but it was dynamic.

I'm pretty sure that's how it works. I could be mistaken though.

It is dynamic, but I am yet to see XP auto tweak anything over 65535.
