| reply to voiplover Re: [DTA310] Firmware Recovery Thread
The last time that I downgraded to 11.11 and it worked was a DTA that had only been upgraded to 12.39 and I'm sorry but I don't recall the downloader code version. It was quite a while ago and the spare that I use with others hasn't seen anything higher than 12.34 and never any leadtec firmware. It works and I don't have another spare to test with.
If someone wants to donate one that is stuck, I'll try to default the board. |

| reply to rcilink My DTA 310 has the following firmware:
Application Code Version: DTA version 1.0 US (8x8 001315) Downloader Code Version: 1.0 US (8x8 010225)
I would like to configure it to work with Asterisk. Could anyone suggest whether that is possible and if so, what is the best approach? I'm asking because the many posts I saw here that with failed upgrade using 010225 downloader. The approachs I am thinking are:
1. Is it possible to update with AR16O directly?
2. Could I update with sip1315unl to unlock the DTA? And will that allow me to configure it to work with asterisk?
Thanks very much for any inputs. |

| Re: [DTA310] Warning: 11.11 firmware
If your downloader code version is 8x8 0102xx or higher; DO NOT ATTEMPT TO RELOAD FIRMWARE 11.11
I do not know at which version or if it is just affecting those who loaded Leadtec firmware, but it may permanently disable your DTA.
When I wrote the directions for restoring the DTA these firmware versions were not available to me. |

| One member here has agreed to send me his stuck DTA. I could use 2 more to speed this up. I'll try to force a default and upgrade it until it won't accept 11.11 again. This may take a while. If you are interested feel free to IM me. I do feel a little guilty for posting the restore thread but this problem did not exist at the time. |

| reply to vmc0002 Re: [DTA310] Firmware Recovery Thread
To get your DTA310 working with asterisk, you might want to try the following:
Standard Disclaimer: Do this at your own risk! So, don't try this with a DTA310 that is working with a Packet8 subscription! I have actually toasted several DTA310 units, and one BPA410 unit.. I am waiting for a seriously rainy week so I can build the host interface cable and attempt to re-flash the unit while it is in slave-mode. Since I don't have much help from the 8x8 crew, this may be a long-term project.
I do have one DTA310 working with Asterisk [running the AR16O firmware]..
Perhaps these steps may work for you:
1. install firmware 12.35 or 12.39 (I have seen people post that they have used either of these).
2. As soon as it is loaded and you confirm the 'main application' is running, verify the application code and downloader code. The downloader code should NOT be 010225! If it is, try re-flashing the 13.15 packet8 firmware to prevent making your DTA310 into a brick. If it takes, you can start the steps over. Your downloader code should be lower than the 010225 version. If it is, upgrade the firmware to the LeadTek AR16O firmware. (Stay with AR16O, not any of the newer firmwares offered by LeadTek).
3. Once loaded, restart and run 'main application'. You should have AR16O with a downloader code of 010113. If not, you may find that it won't upgrade anymore... If your goal is to stay with the AR16O for Asterisk use, then dont worry about it. It will configure and work with Asterisk and many other providers (Not Packet8!).
No one has proven it yet, but it appears that the newer firmwares offered by Packet8 may actually break the DTA310 if loaded with the AR16O or the 11.11 firmware. It could be coded to destruct, or random occurance.. I doubt you will get them to tell you..
Good Luck! |

| reply to rcilink after fooling around some with my dtas this morning i've discovered that this combination of application and downloader will not let this dta boot into downloader mode (Reset -> Reset and execute Downloader Application), making it unable to accept any other firmware.
Application Code Version: SIP version 1.0 US (LDTK AR16O ) checksum e423 Downloader Code Version: 1.0 US (8x8 010221) checksum 9420 so maybe this should go into a list of bad combinations?

Mike_27 I don't know if you really want to 'fix' it, since it has the leadtek AR16O working, but if you do, Try the packet8 13.12 sip firmware. It matches that downloader code version.. |

| reply to rcilink Thanks rcilink and voiplover.
I successfully reflashed the firmware with 12.35unl and the DTA is working with asterisk now.
The new versions are: Application Code Version: DTA version 1.0 US (8x8 001235) Downloader Code Version: 1.0 US (8x8 010113)
Now the question is whether to flash to AR16O or just stick with 12.35. |

1 edit | reply to rcilink [DTA310] or [BPA410] debugging bad firmware
 BPA410 serial port |
OK, I keep blowing-up these things.. I began working the pinout of the 40-pin "host interface". I only have 11 pins mapped-out so far.. This is a pain in the butt (my eyes are going crazy from the micro-sized traces!!)
Anyhow, I think this is pinned-out right.. The board has another connector with a place for 5 pins (on the DTA310 board, it was labeled GOB, J5). On the BPA410, it is labeled J7.
The mark is pin 1 (numbered right to left) has the following pinout:
1. bootmode [normally high] 2. Serial Out 3. Serial In 4. Gnd 5. Gnd
The serial port will need to run through a MAX-232 chip to bring the port up to RS232 levels for a PC to see anything from it..
I have the chip and will begin wiring it in later this week. The Goal: clear out the broken firmware and reload new firmware (even if it means I have to hook this serial port up on a working DTA first and save the flash content to disk.. then just put it back into the broken flash..
NOTE: This has not been tested.. My eyes are tired, so verify your traces to be absolutely sure.. Or, if you dont want to do anything, just check back here in a week (I hope to have it done by then) and see what happened to this project.. |

 Naked DTA310 |
This has proven to be a challenge, for sure... The "Netergy T2U" chip was getting in the way, so I had to remove that. Now, most of the pinout mapping is complete for the 40pin header. The serial port pinout is complete (pin 1 should say VSS[3.3v], not bootmode).
Now, I will be working on the cabling to get the serial port working as well as the host interface.. stay tuned! |

1 edit | reply to rcilink Sorry nothing huge to report yet..
I put the order in for the 'max232' chip, and some other parts for my shelf. As soon as that is in, i will post the results of the serial port connection..
Hopefully, it will just work, and things will be that simple. We shall see!
Stay tuned! |

| reply to rcilink have a bunch of dta310
i got one to take leadtek 18d
Application Code Version: SIP AR18D (LDTK US) checksum cc7d Downloader Code Version: 010208 (P8VO US) checksum 22af Hardware Type: BVA8051S
any other dowloader won't take it. Do you know of a firmware which includes that downloader?
interesting to note... packet8 firmwares update the downloader, leadteks do not, as per leadtek web site and trial.
BTW anyone stuck with almost anything can try this firmware, which even p8 13.15 allows... from there, almost anything takes... besides leadtek 18D I want 18D b/c message waiting light works on it with asterisk.

I believe rcilink has a collection of P8 firmware in "inventory." Perhaps he (or somebody else) can try out the numerous firmware versions on a good DTA to see which one uses Downloader 010208.

| reply to Naftali5 I have LeadTek AR16O working with aterisk. The message waiting part does work too.
I made a choice to hack the asterisk code to change the message waiting NOTIFY string and it is happy (MSG light blinks on phone now, etc.)
Did you say you actually got the version 18 loaded on your DTA310? Did it lock-up or is it configurable? |
