| Someone explain this to me
Really for once I'd like a reasonable no bs explanation. Why is that from what I've read. Almost every other Insight serviced area is releasing the new DVR units to customers with no appointment? Meaning they are allowing current DVR customers to just come in and do a simple box swap. And this seems to be working for customers with no issues being reported. Yet in the wonderful world of Springfield, IL once again they have to be difficult!! What is this special wiring that needs done? Wanna bet the technician just comes in and installs the box? No special wiring was needed when they installed the original DVR box. So what has changed? What is so different in the Springfield market compared to the rest? I'm sure there is some brilliant reason for this decision. But guess what - it's just going to cause aggravation. If you gave give me a reasonable explanation as to why a service call is need for this. Then ok - I'll deal with the hassle. But from what I'm reading in this forum. Many users have done a simple box swap and are enjoying their new DVR unit. So why do Springfield customers have to deal with setting up a house call? When other Insight customers in other regions don't have to - to receive this new box and it's new features. -- Test Your Security Cable Diagnostics Iggyz Blog ZoneAlarm Help |

| reply to BeesTea said by BeesTea :There's no charge for the install. You can say this without a 100% no doubt? It seems that there is no set rules on what each region or office does ,example I was paying my bill and a gentleman wanted to cancel his movie channels. The CSR says : That will be a $27.95 fee to do that sir , I have had this happen to me also. You know when they say oh you can have showtime for 3 months free , little do they tell you there is gonna be a change of service fee if you don't want to keep.
What I find funny is if I cancel my service totally I get no diconnect or charged a outrageous fee to change service. I had to go through this last friday when I decided I no longer needed digital cable or cable period. When the lady mentioned the fee I just told here fine cancel it all and once it's diconnected I will just get what I want without this outrageous fee.
Anyways back on Topic:
I would think Insight would want to save there already swamped techs some trouble and let the customers come pick up the new boxes. -- Broadcasting The Classic Hits 24/7 SauceMaster Radio!!!! |

| reply to IGGY Doesn't make sense to have to have them install it. This is probably why it takes so long to get an appointment.
When I upgraded my digital box to the HDDVR the customer support person told me I had to have a tech come to my house and install it. I argued with her and her manager for a little bit about the stupidity of this. They both said it is the LAW that I have no choice. I told her they need to contact their congressman, because somehow the law doesn't apply to Comcast. They let me swap out my own digital box. |

| reply to IGGY Well let us see - wiring needing done - pure bull!! The contractor in fact did go out and put a new tag on the line. But no new wiring was done. Just added the box - called things in to the office and made sure everything was working before he left.
When the installed called this afternoon. He stated he hadn't been given the proper unit. Could he please schedule an appointment for tomorrow. As politely as I could - I asked if we could avoided that and if he could get a box from the office. It seems where everyone picks up what they need closes early of an evening. This a little before 4:30 PM central time. Luckily things got worked out and a box was picked up. The installer was polite and we a fairly decent conversation. Seems some friends of his had previously lived in our townhouse.
I haven't had time to fully give the new unit a spin. We've record two shows at once. Watch recorded DVR content while two other shows were being taped. I'll hopefully test out everything else over the next few days.
Now if only honesty would have been used by those answering the phones. No new wiring was needed. If they would have just stated that office policy was to only do box swaps using a technician do to problems with swaps done in office. I would have understood this. Wouldn't have been happy - but would have still understood and been ok with things. But when you give some bogus story - like the need for new wiring. That just causes aggravation. -- Test Your Security Cable Diagnostics Iggyz Blog ZoneAlarm Help |

1 edit | reply to Matt_31 Last Tuesday, I received my DVR 6412, and the installer tagged the the lines at the pole. He also removed the filter, at the splitter, from the analog cable. The installer stated that they were removing all the filters, because they are causing problems.
I also have a TIVO box, and I like its feature in fast forward which rewinds a couple of seconds when play is selected. I can skip content without having to press rewind to start where the new content is located.
My installation sheet has a cod charge, but the installer marked it to show on my cable bill. |
