What commodity do you think NBC/GE, CBS/Viacom, ABC/Disney, and FOX/NewsCorp sell? Hint: it ain't their programming.
What they sell, Mr. Oliphant, is your eyes and ears. Programming is just the bait; you're the fish. Their customers are the advertisers and their "product" is viewers.
And don't think they don't own you. Just get cable or satellite and see how many out-of-town sports events are blacked out in your area because the right to determine what you can watch is owned by the local channels. |
