| Try this out....
Was this person trespassing on someone's property? The signal was being broadcast beyond the limits of the owner's property and the "violator" was simply receiving the signal on his laptop. Now, it would be a different situation if the signal was properly encrypted and the "violator" took deliberate steps to crack into the system. Nearly all wireless routers come with some software to adjust signal strength and the level of encryption. The owners of such equipment should be made aware of these measures and the companies (Qwest, Verizon, etc) should educate their customers on the proper use of security. It would be very simple to include specific instructions for each new subscriber on how to set-up just basic security to prevent such occurances (i.e. "Disable SSID broadcast") |

| 'Trespassing' with a radio signal? Dude, you're really reaching. By that logic, everyone with a cellphone is 'trespassing'. Using your own WiFi network in your own house is 'trespassing', since your signal doesn't stop at the walls. Using satellite radio is 'trespassing'.
Very weak analogy. -- Therapy is expensive. Bubble wrap is free. |

Very weak argument. |

| Yes, they do terminate. Perhaps not in a form you can use, but pretty much every piece of electronic equipment, for just one example, will pick up that radio signal and terminate it - and some will amplify it. I get taxi transmissions over my computer speakers all the time - are they trespassing? -- Therapy is expensive. Bubble wrap is free. |

join:2001-12-12 Toronto, ON | That doesn't matter. When you trespass on someone's property, it doesn't matter what your intent was. This is part of why your analogy simply does not hold. -- Therapy is expensive. Bubble wrap is free. |
