4 edits | Comcast tech says speed upgrades are coming !!!
I was talking to a tech about getting moved to the gold tier a few mins ago and she said that if I did I would lose my special of $19.99 for 6 months. So I told her I would just wait till after my special and then upgrade.
So after talkin for a min shes told me not to worry about it because she just heard this weekend that they are doing upgrades very soon. She told me silver will move to the 6MB and that gold will move to 10MB !
Hell yea, I can't wait for this.

said by jmcd088 :I can't wait for this. If Comcast moves at its usual pace you'll be waiting quite a while. By the time Comcast gets us to 6MB the rest of the broadband world will be at 15.
By the way, about a month ago a rep told me the same thing about the silver tier eventually going up to 6/768. |

| reply to jmcd088 The upgrades are great, but look at the countless posts of people with major problems.
It would be better in my mind for Comcast to find a way to make the 4MB and 6MB service work correctly for all of their customers before trying to figure out a way to roll 10MB.
Besides, what is that you do online that can "Really" take advantage of that much throughput? Trust me, I'm a sysadmin and network guy, I run MS and Linux and download a ton, I play online games, etc......but I didn't even make the jump to 6MB becuase I didn't think i would get enough bang for my 10 bucks. |

And You Know THIS! lets not tease ourselves. like everyone knows and says, Comcast is slow to act. thus the name. but yes one day, when our children's children are old enough to use a computa, there will be 10down and 999up. but these speeds will be impossible and you will never get better than these glory days we have now of *cough* 4down 384up *cough*
ok ok, prolly by next summer if we cross everything we can and truly truly hold your breath |

| each individual corp is run at the local level. Personally i have had no problems attaining the advertised speeds regularly. While you may have issues others do not so i find it a little bit presumptious to put all of Comcast under the same umbrella. |

my theory is that comcast just uses Gold Tier to test and stabalize their next rendition of silver tier. they charge more for it, and advert higher speeds, and get extra cash, while they spend time working out the kinks, so that when they upgrade the silver tier to that point, it works for the most part. |

| reply to jmcd088 I have to agree with Scott I have had the gold tier for a while now and have had no troubles at all attaining the advertised speed...the 6mb is nice but the reason I got the gold is for the upload speed. It seems that the problems people have stems back to their local office. |

| reply to jmcd088 Few people need 6mbps download speeds. It's like getting a Ferrari that can go 200mbh when the speed limit is 65. Few servers of any kind can meet that speed.
I'd rather have higher upload speeds from Comcast for better VOIP use and for the occasional time I need to run an FTP server to send files to my sister back East. 4,000/1,000 would make me a very happy camper indeed while my current 4200/384 just doesn't quite cut it for uploading. |

@verizon.ne | My news server can handle 6mbps and greater, which is all that I care about for the most part. In terms of downloading, most of my stuff comes from the newsgroups and some from BT. But I agree, upload speeds need to be increased before download. |

10mb is not enough. Why cant comcast just use their damn money and stop hogging it for nothing! at least give up 15mb/3mb or 20mb :P The best would be 100mb/100mb
the only speed increase i have noticed is that im acutally getting the full 6mb lol |

said by prestonlewis :Few servers of any kind can meet that speed. I don't really agree with that statement. It's very rare to find a server that can't max my connection out. Even when downloading media files from overseas. To get a slow connection is rare.
Another advantage is with having multiple connections open at the same time downloading different stuff, i get more done. -- "I'm not bright, big words confuse me, I have the attention span of a rodent and Wanda loves me anyway! And that should be enough for you!" |

| reply to jmcd088 Also, having more speed allows you to dowload more at once. You may only be using 3mbit out of 6, but there's always more room to get something else fairly quickly off of another server.
For me though, I use up my 6mbit connection on most days. |

| reply to jmcd088 See, here's my thing. They've had such problems with latency, I'd rather have them get that working right instead of getting 10 megabit. Adding more on top of crap yields nothing.
As for bandwidth / gaming -- latency is the top concern over bandwidth (generally speaking). An average game require a consistent data rate of what, a max of 10kb/sec? Unless you've got 100 brothers and sisters sharing your connection, you don't need it for gaming.
Now, hopefully they'll increase the upload to at least 1mb. That would be nice. |
