Does anyone have any information on how Slingbox would work on a DirecWay internet connection? I'm thinking the upstream might be too slow. Thoughts? |

| Here is a screen capture of the streaming at max settings (1Mbps) The quality is very good. As far as the pricing, yes you can probably pick up a pc for $300 but not with a hardware based MPG encoder that this has. That will set you back at least another $200 for the card. I just got it today with the expectation that I would play with it and return it if it didn't meet expectations. So far I am impressed. |

The only catch? The software sucks. But it's still not $200 total (BeyondTV costs $50 if you use the 21-day trial and then wait for the 20% off coupon just before the trial runs out).

My Question is---can you manage more than one Slingbox on a network? Does the UPnP manage ports? -- "Democracy is the worst form of government except for all those others that have been tried."-Winston Churchill |

| reply to IronChefMoto Still, you would have to spend more than $450 to get a decent PC, plus card and software to meet the quality of Slingbox. Further, I have found Slingbox very easy to setup...total of about 10mins.
Finally, I didn't want a full PC running in my living room. Way too noisy. This is a very quiet, low power device. No fans.
Also, I have this connected to my exisiting Tivo. They have all of the remote codes worked out and a good IR blaster included. |

| reply to patulrich Not gonna work. 256 maximum if you havea more expensive plan, though most uploads are more like dial-up speed. It would work OK on a LAN around the house or on a 128k ISDN connection. You could also stream through direcway downstream, like if you have an RV with a dish and stream from home. You have to watch out though, as you can only stream like 500MB or less before you get throttled to dial-up speed. I want one of these things. The 1 mbps stream looks GREAT! WOW! 768 is a possibility for many Verizon and Comcast customers, so placeshifted TV is becoming a reality. As long as you don't have a b/w cap. |

- Your Slingbox should work with any high speed internet connection that has an upload speed of at least 128 kpbs. Obviously the higher the speed is on your connection the better it will work. However, it can work at a slower speed. You can watch your SlingPlayer in you local location without the higher speed connection, but for Remote Viewing your will want at least a 128 kbps up speed. |
