Powerbook Hard Drive #3 = dying

My powerbook is crapping out, again.

4 minute boot to OS X. Everything works, it's just really damn slow. Disk Warrior + Applecare Tech Tool Deluxe from a firewire drive found things and fixed them. Still nothing good.

At this point in time, I am starting to think that something more might be wrong with my 1 year old powerbook.

Just because it's a theory, it does not inherit merit of the title.
What this country needs is a good five dollar plasma weapon.

Is it only the boot that's slow? Have you checked the energy saver settings? Have you reset the PMU? Does it boot properly from the Firewire drive? Have you tried those SMART monitoring tools?

I have a friend with a powerbook that has the same problems, mainly the insanely slow boot times. Also occasional wake from sleep issues/multi-minute delays. I would have pegged it as a drive issue, but it passes the tech tool tests and all the SMART tools show the drive as OK. It's not even an IBM/Hitachi drive.

Is this a common thing? He's kind of given up on the thing since it happened after the initial warranty expired.

sporkme, I've found that having ichat running when I put my Powerbook to sleep will cause it to beachball for a long time on wake. If I log out of ichat before sleep, it' okay.
