Speed Problems

I am in New Castle Indiana (Anderson Indiana) and I am having speed issues with callvantage. I have noticed that I can't get over 400kb/s however before the "upgrades" i could get 450 - 500 constantly. Now i can't get over 400.

I have requested teh upgrade and I still can;t get over 400kps, I have tried different routers and pc's all the same problem.

Anyone having similar issues. And we all know how great Insight tech support is. You must have spyware. Which is just stupid. I have a IPCOP router which I can tell how much speed my connection is transmitting at any given time and it is never HIGH unless i am actually doing soem type of transfer.

I'm from New Castle also, and I've called them a couple times about my speeds. I've noticed the problem seems to only be on the southside. I'm paying for the plus service, and the best that I've been getting lately is 3-4Mbps down/400-450 up. They are supposed to send a tech out Tuesday, but I'm still pissed that I am paying for a service that most people aren't paying for and they are getting higher speeds than me. I'm still going to make sure I get my 60 dollars back for 2 months of Plus service.

That is exactly what i am getting .. I live on Midway drive near arby's / swift. I don't think the tech will be able to do anything.

I'm in the same boat.

Before the 'scheduled maintenance' I was getting down speeds ~ 450-500 kbps.

Now I'm getting ~ 280 kbps. I called support a week ago and they said to give it a couple days. "somtimes the upgrades don't go as planned" bleh.

LOL.. I've gave it two weeks. What's really sad is that I've heard some people on the Northside of New Castle, and other areas are getting 6Mbps down and only paying for the standard service. It makes me squirm knowing how much I've been paying and the speeds that I've been getting. I hope this tech is ready to listen to what I have to say about Insight. :-P

Yup identical problems so there is something up in there system. Please keep me informed about the cable guy but he will just check your signal qual which will most likely be the way it was before the maintenance.

The tech arrived on time just as I was leaving for work. However my sister was here and said that he cut the ends off the cables, and then installed a new cable in the basement. I had already done everything that he did, and after he was finished we were actually getting less power level than before. I redid everything a couple weeks before because anymore they do a crappy job and drill a hole wherever regardless if their is a wire dangling from the ceiling in a basement bedroom. I was really dissappointed to arrive home to find that their had been no change in speeds. Another call to Insight made me waste 30 minutes of my life on hold, listening to their worthless advertising. I finally gave up, and decided to call back another time. The second time I called back I finally got someone, and they said they'd have to transfer me to technical support and possibly reopen the ticket. I assured them that the problem was on their end, and it can't be more obvious after reading the recent posts about the Anderson area. After waiting for another 15 minutes, it sounded like someone picked up and the next thing I know I'm listening to a ringtone. Finally I called back a third time after 12AM and was able to get through fairly quickly. To no surprise the tech said that they are having several issues, and trying new things in the Anderson area and there is nothing he can do. I'm going to the local office tomorrow to get my refund, seeing that whenever I call them the automated system it always transfers me to Richmond. None of it makes sense, but I do know that I am tired of the piss poor speeds here. They keep getting worse everyday, and it doesn't sound like they plan on fixing them anytime soon. Just another example of corporate greed.. I just don't feel it is ethically right to falsely advertise speeds that they know their consumers won't get. I am happy that they don't force users to sign a contract, or I'd be in court raising hell. Does anyone else have any "Insight" to this issue?

Guess what happened, I had a tech scheduled to come out on Saturday and he calles at 1:30 pm and says that he can't do anything with the internet side of things and can't test any of the line etc. I was like WTf. So now i am on the phone with them getting at least a free month.

I don't let insight do any of my cabling i have a computer room and they test that line and that is it. I don't use them for tv because they sux.

Basically if there was another solution i would use them however there isn't except dial up.

I sent them an email last week about slower speeds than before and got this reply back today..

I ran tests to your modem and everything looks good.
Please call for Technical Support when someone can be in front of the
computer for troubleshooting.
Technical support may be obtained by calling your local Insight office and
selecting the High Speed Data option.
During normal working hours, Tech Support is handled through the local
office. After normal working hours and on weekends/holidays you will be
automatically forwarded to our Technical Support Call Center. This insures
that our customers receive 24/7 Technical Support for the InsightBB
high-speed internet access.
Many configuration questions for Operating Systems and E-mail Clients can be
answered by going to our website (»www.insightbb.com) and clicking on
the Help tab.
I thought they may say they were having a problem in my area but guess not. Maybe its just me..

Ok good news. Sorta,

I got a tech out today actually 3 of them came out. THey ran tests with there own device and it kept dropping the speed from 3800 to 17 constantly and they were like this isn't any good and went to the pole, same there. They are going to be speaking with louisville etc. They have noticed similar things happening all over anderson / newcastle. They are sending in a complaint. I am also in tocuh with the district supervisor and getting at least a free motnh out of this. I suggest everyone call in.

Can you please give them my name and phone number, and let them know that I'm having the same issues. They sent out a tech to my house, but he didn't fix anything obviously. Something strange that I noticed is after buying a new modem last night, I didn't have to call in and register my MAC. I thought for sure that they used the MACs from the modem for something, but maybe it's just the device you have registered on the network. I hope that's not the case. Buying a new modem did not help my speed issues at all, but I may still keep it since my other one is almost 2 years old. My phone number is removed by moderator for privacy. Thanks for the reply!

Mod Note: Contact the member via Instant Message to get the number from him. That way the bots can't harvest the number from the site pages. 2kmaro

I'm beginning to think that the slow speed problem is a network wide problem and not a local issue. Over the last few days, my speeds have been up and down at various times day and night. Here's what I am getting in NKY tonight.

:::.. Download Stats ..:::
Connection is:: 1740 Kbps about 1.7 Mbps (tested with 5983 kB)
Download Speed is:: 212 kB/s
Tested From:: »testmy.net/ (server1)
Test Time:: Fri Jul 15 00:10:48 EDT 2005
Bottom Line:: 31X faster than 56K 1MB download in 4.83 sec
Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 52.44 % of your hosts average (insightBB.com)

Nah... here's my results:

Download Speed: 4132 kbps (516.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 352 kbps (44 KB/sec transfer rate)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've been getting pretty good speeds. I think they are just doing the upgrades in more and more areas. After they originally did it in my area I also got slow speeds for maybe a week or so. It then evened out and works great!

I've also noticed something else. The speed test site makes a HUGE difference and that's apparently just Internet traffic. The above test was through Chicago SpeakEasy. If I use ANY of the other SpeakEasy test sites I get much lower numbers. Obviously I'm getting good speeds because the above test shows is over and over. I tried the test site the previous poster used and only got 2810. I never realized the huge difference it makes.

I am getting much better speeds in the morning than I do in the late evenings. It may be related to upgrades similar to what Comcast was doing a few months ago, as I recently got a new IP address. I had my old ip for over a year.

Speakeasy Chicago results this morning

Last Result:
Download Speed: 3486 kbps (435.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 352 kbps (44 KB/sec transfer rate)
