[SunRocket] Resetting SunRocket Gizmo Defaults

I received my Gizmo a couple of days ago. It set up without any problems. In coming and out going calls were available right away. I have the Gizmo behind my SMC2804WBR router for normal operation and all works well.

Today I wanted to explore the firmware menu on the Gismo. Following the instructions to hook the Gizmo lan port directly to a PC port, I set the pc to DHCP, with the link between the PC and the lan port of the Gizmo. The Gizmo DHCP server assigned the PC an address of 192.168.251.100.

I logged in with the default password and explored the Gizmo menu/settings for awhile. All ok to this point.

I decided to turn off the Gizmo DHCP as I wanted the SMC router to be the only DHCP server on my network (6 PC's, router, 16 port switch, Packet8 DTA310, and a network printer).

I used the menu option to turn off the Gizmo DHCP, and assigned it a fixed address on the same subnet as the rest of my network, but above my SMC assigned DHCP range. I then put the PC and cables back to normal, but added a cable between the Gizmo Lan port and the switch. So I had both WAN and LAN ports on the Gizmo hooked up. I expected to be able to be able to reach the Gizmo menu on the fixed IP address I had assigned without the cable swapping needed originally.

The good news is that the Gizmo "voice" light is on, and it makes/receives calls OK.
The bad news is, I can't get to the Gizmo menu at any address. Not even when hooking it up directly to a pc, as worked originally.

I used several IP/port scanners to search my network for the address of the Gizmo. With "SoftPerfect Network Scanner" I can see the Gizmo has picked up an address in the range my SMC router assigned, but it does not show port 80 HTTP open. Netlab shows SMTP, POP3 ports open but no other ports such as alternate HTTP ports I looked for. I know it is the Gizmo because it shows the Gizmo MAC address.

After this long winded build up, my questions are:
1) how do I reset the Gizmo back to a default/Sunrocket stock setting?
2) Is there an easier way to be able to get to a (restored) Gizmo menu, without the cable swapping?

I have tried rebooting everything and various network cable hookups (crossover cable included), tried the 192.168.251.1 address, as noted above, no port 80 is active on the Gizmo. I did notice the Gizmo revision level was 4.54 before I screwed up my access to the menu.

I don't know if there is a way to reset to defaults. You can only get to the menu via the lan port and as you have disabled dhcp, you will have to configure the network address of the pc that you connect to the Gizmo. The address will have to be from the subnet range that the Gizmo is on, 192.168.251.x.

The Gizmo will autoconfigure itself every 24 hours. Try going off the LAN port and go to 192.168.251.1 you should be able to access it. You'll need to call SR technical support if you want another subnet assigned to your device.

FYI: resetting your gizmo to factory defaults is against the TOS. Just letting you know.

Really trying to get back to the config as it was shipped to me, if factory is the wrong term lets call it Sunrocket default. I went back and edited my post. And yes I have tried 192.168.251.1. Port scanners show no port 80 active.

It is crazy to have to go through SR tech support to change a subnet address. I am sure their techs have better things to do.

Thanks for the info, I will keep digging, there just has to be a way to reset this Gizmatchet.

If you reset the access IP to the Gizmo, did you try to enter it with that IP instead of the default? If you do get in, you should be able to go on from there.

The 24 config refresh is for the VoIP config only. That has nothing to do with the user configurable settings.

The following reset procedure was posted a while back. I have not tried it personally. This is not to "break into" the Gizmo, it is to reset it to the way it was when you recieved it from SR.

"Someone might be curious as to how to RESET their "Gizmo", seems these things do not have RESET buttons on them. But if you want it to go back to the SunRocket Defaults, basically unplug the WAN and LAN cables, leaving a phone connected (Port 1) and then dialing ##333-2858... You should hear a guy say "DOT" but sometimes it just comes out as some form of "modem scratch tones". Just keep dialing until you hear SOME form of sound (max 1 minute) and then the phone should hang up, you will see the lights all go crazy on the "Gizmo"... Then plug it all back in and you will notice it is back to the defaults."

I think the reset you are talking about using the connected phone needs to be completed within 10 minutes or less of powering the gizmo.
Otherwise it will not work.

Yes, I did. If you read my first post, you will see I used port scanners to see what address the Gizmo was at. But the scanners showed only the SMTP, POP3, 5060, and a couple of other high numbered ports that Gizmo uses for VOIP ports, they did not show port 80 or 8080 the common HTTP ports, so without a HTTP port being active, no access with a browser.

Thanks, that is the answer, the reset works perfectly!! :D

I spent several hours trying to get this solved today, including searches on this forum, and did not find it. This one message is the key,
( »[SunRocket] Service Outage ) but you have to stumble on the correct prase to to find the thread.

Mr Moderator:
Perhaps the reset codes/procedures for all the various VOIP devices discussed in this forum could be gathered together as they are posted/confirmed, and be made part of a "sticky".:)

TexasPlus,

You were immediately presented with a viable solution by howieh on how to regain access to your Gizmo from the LAN side. He wrote the following:
quote:

The address will have to be from the subnet range that the Gizmo is on, 192.168.251.x.
If the above wasn't clear to you, do this:

1) Connect a PC to the Gizmo's LAN port. Connect the Gizmo's WAN port to your ROUTER.

2) Configure the PC in step #1 w/ a STATIC IP ADDRESS of 192.168.251.x (I would go w/ 192.168.251.100)

I can't verify at the moment which Subnet Mask the Gizmo uses; however, try 255.255.255.0. Hopefully somebody else can plug a PC into their Gizmo's LAN port, run ipconfig, and post the subnet mask as configured by the Gizmo's DHCP server.

Specify a DNS server of 192.168.251.1

3) Once your PC is STATICALLY configured, you should be able to browse to the Gizmo's WEB interface at »192.168.251.1

4) Once back in your Gizmo, TURN ON DHCP.

In reference to your port scans showing no life on PORT 80 of 192.168.251.1:

So long as your PC is not configured on the 192.168.251.x network, your port scans aren't going to come up with anything on the Gizmo.

As far as trying to accomplish what you initially set out to do:

The Gizmo's web-interface can technically be accessed from the WAN side; however, only if that access has been turned on, and only via the ADMIN password. The "welcome" password (i.e. the USER password) doesn't work from the WAN side. If you manage to obtain admin access to your Gizmo, you can configure it to your heart's content. Otherwise, no dice.

Rizzo

EDIT: While I spent the time composing the above, you already confirmed that a different solution works. I'll keep my post above incase others want to try what I posted.

It was clear, and before I posted my first message, I had already spent a couple hours trying that solution, and variations on it.:D

During my searches today, I saw threads about the admin password. Thanks for confirming that it is what I need to administer my Gizmo to better fit my network. I saw a couple of folks that offered to PM it to others. I hope they will still do that.

There are many people wanting the new admin password. The original password was leaked by an anonymous poster using the name "SR_INSIDER" (or something to that effect).

For those who previously accessed their Gizmo w/ the old admin password and turned off automatic updates, they should still have admin access to their Gizmos.

I never asked to be put on the PM notification list for the new Admin password; however, I can't say I really need it (i.e. previous paragraph).

Of course if somebody obtains (or cracks) the new admin password, feel free to tell me it.
