Re: Verizon

Keep smokin that pipe dude. At least Verizon is deploying fiber. Not blowing smoke up peoples ass like sbc and most other companies out there. Good work Verizon.

I don't see any inherent contradiction in accepting that Verizon are evil blood sucking bastards and that they are also deploying a very desirable service at a decent price.

Even evil monopolies sometimes have something worth buying.

Um... Verizon is spending its own money to deploy FIOS. Where are you getting this information from that the tax payers are paying for it?

Tell that to the residents of Pennsylvania from whom Verizon stole over $2 billion for supposed fiber deployment that never materialized.

I'm a resident of New Jersey. I could care less what the people in PA fell for. All I know is that Verizon is installing fiber all around my area and I'm happy. Of course there will be fools on here who say that Verizon is wrong to install fiber and then there are people who yell about how Verizon isn't installing fiber fast enough.

I'm laughing and I'm sure the execs at Verizon are too because we know damn well the average consumer will buy this AWESOME deal! 15/2 for $45-50/month is excellent compared to what Americans have as an option today for Broadband.

The question wasn't whether or not $45 for 15Mb was a good deal.

Hmmm...which company is REALLY the "evil blood sucking bastards", the incumbent CATV co. suing for their turf or the incumbent telco ??

As for the monopoly that you speak of...there isn't one !!
Or this whole FIGHT wouldn't exist !!

Dude, they're BOTH monopolies. They've just had different turfs until recently.

You see any Joe's Broadband wires strung from those poles? Can you get a T-1 or DSL line or POTS line where Verizon/yourILEC is NOT the last mile carrier? Can you get cable TV service from anyone else? This is not complicated.

Why, so we may all indulge in the daily proFIOS circle-jerk?

If you want to avoid discussion of Verizon and its sordid past, perhaps you should skip the news item. If you want to kiss the ass of Verizon, there is a forum in which to do so... »Rants, Raves, and Praise

But so long as the public funding question is asked, expect it to be answered.

I'm not kissing anyone's ass and I don't a rat's ass about Verizon. I'm just tired of seeing the whining of Pa resident's every time someone mentions FIOS and Verizon in the same post. If you got robbed, it wasn't strictly due to Verizon, some of your "Public Servants" (an oxymoron) had to have a hand in it (pun intended) somewhere. Have you gotten rid of those of your idiots who helped rob you?

I'm sorry...do I look like a PA resident?

Just because the teller holds the door open for the robber doesn't get the robber off the hook. Verizon should return the money and the politicians strung up on trees for being stupid enough to enter into an agreement with a company like Verzion.

While we all are smiles over Verizon's deployment it shouldn't be seen as Verizon's greatness that led to it. They've been promising and taking taxpayer money for 10 years to just now be getting around to it.

IOW, Verizon doesn't deserve in any way shape or form the universal praise they seem to receive here for their FIOS deployment.

I as a California Resident with a business in an area seeing FIOS deployment say it's about f*cking time considering the billions upon billions they received from Joe Taxpayer. And just because it wasn't me getting ripped off doens't change the fact that PA residents got screwed and it sucks.

If you have a painter and you've been paying the guy to paint your house and have been waiting 10 years for it to get started and now that it's finally started you going to heap endless praise the guy saying, "Wow the house looks great?"

Hell no you're going to say "About F-ing time Jackson!"

maybe so but the end result of what one purportedly receives in exchange for said soul is radically different.
