I think most people are missing the point. Sure Verizon will roll it out first to areas that will show the most immediate profit. But this will be only to show results fof the entire project and because it makes sense. However the real pay-off(and the reason it will probably be deployed everywhere) is because of the fact there is hardly any maintenence needed for the a PON. In time we've heard(I work in HB) that people will be force migrated to alleiviate problems with the aging copper plant. The copper plant is very expensive to maintain, and Verizon will be happy when it takes 20% of the employees to maintain the same amount of plant. Its a long term cost savings maneuver that will pay off years from now. |
