| The real reason for this proposed legislation
My opinion is that the major companies are now ready, five years since they burst the bubble on telecom stocks to kill potential competition from skinny startups using then next generation technology, to offer broadband services to "rural" America, the tertiary telecom markets. So their next project: Get a big tax break from Congress to let everybody else subsidize it. Makes sense from that perspective. Tell 'em its to more rapidly deploy broadband, but it's really to subsidize the big companies, not the little companies which would already be IN those areas if the telecom capital market hadn't been flattened in 2000 to keep them from doing it.
