OMG DSL for $14.95 per month!

SBC Yahoo is offering $14.95 per month DSL. Wonder if we will match?

DSLX hasn't budged on pricing plans such as the 3000/768 for $29.95/month, so I doubt they will make any changes here either. That said, I still think DSLX is a better value for what I use it for anyways.

It would be even better if the price for the high-end package (month-to-month) is lowered to like $40 a month.

Err....I have a referral (friend) who signed up this past Sunday when the price was $19.95. He hasn't received his modem nor activation date yet. He wants to know if his price will be $14.95?

This does exactly Jack for us longsuffering Verizon users. Then again, this is probably a PPPoE deal. I (Heart) my Static IPs...;)

Current customer on SBC Yahoo forum wrote about renewing a one year contract while in contract for the new $14.95 price:

"Just called SBC to get re-rated. It's a done deal, new 1 yr. term starting June 8 but now at 14.95 a month. Easy & Painless.

Thanks SBC"

My call to DSLx for re-rating: "Sorry, no"

OK I am totally confused, what is the difference in power user and minimal web user, aside from the obvious. I cant by any means call myself a minimal user, if I was I wouldn't be looking into dsl would I?
And what are static VS dynamic IPs.
I wonder if I could even set it up, what happens if I have problems as don't know what's involved in splitting and such...

Power users would probably want a static IP so they can host a game, ftp or webserver. Minimal users will just surf the web, download files, etc.

A static IP is a numeric number that will be assinged to you that never changes: great for VPN connections or hosting a server. Dynamic IP will change, but you won't even notice it, you'll just connect to the web and surf.

For most people, the dynamic IP is all they need.

I'm in that battle of stay with DSL Extreme and the Almighty George for $10 extra a month or take my chances with SBC tech support from India and pay the lesser amount. Give me some input on what you all think.

The competition for your communication $$$ is
gonna REALLY heat up over the next 12mos -> 24mos.
SBC is yet to turn on those 144 AT&T designed
video servers already in place and ready to go.

For the record, the instant that DSLx/SBC offers
a combo DSL based Internet/Television service I will
be first in line to sign up.

Take note DSLx. I pay $50/mo for Time Warner
Cable service. Of the 80+ stations I get I need
only maybe 12. If you offered TV over DSL, even
if it was not as good as my present cable service
and even if it cost more then the $50/mo I am
presently paying, I would switch in a heart beat.
I have no use for the HighDefinition junk or the
7,234,234 other dribble channels that TW tells me
I need.
