WiMax fixes many of the problems with the WiFi medium access problem (collision avoidance) and hidden node issues.
There has been a lot of hype about it, but it has more potential than I've personally given it credit for in the past.
WiMax does have a place in fixed wireless delivery systems. We can thank Verizon and SBC for wanting it dead so badly they are willing to go to court to ensure that municipalities are not allowed to deploy it...
WiMax does have a future. It is just that we are no longer being told it "is" the future.
