| Problems with WRT54GS Linksys Router
How come If I want to play on Xbox live I have to take my ethernet cord that goes into my computer out and leave just the xbox ethernet cord in??? If I try both of them either the Pc or the xbox will just disconnect. Ever since I've been messing with the firmware versions its been like this. |

| Honestly I'm not 100% sure I understand the question. But maybe something is set so that Insight is seeing two devices trying to use one connection. Since Insight only allows for one device ( computer or Xbox etc ) to use the connection at one time. This would be why your seeing the disconnection. Because only one device can be registered at one time with Insight. Now if you've not seen this problem in the past. And you feel it's directly linked to the use of the new firmware. I'd try posting in the »Linksys forum for help. I'd assume that as long as the Xbox is in the same room. You could just run another ethernet cable from the Linksys to the Xbox. And as long as the Xbox was being given an IP address from the router. You shouldn't be seeing the issue above. -- Test Your Security Cable Diagnostics Iggyz Blog ZoneAlarm Help |

| reply to austinp23 you need to clone your PC's nic (when you registered with insight) in the router's setup. also, make sure you have the latest firmware. last time I check the WRT54G((S)) was not compatible with XBL, only the WRT54G. -- www.thfx.com |

| reply to austinp23 like it or not that's the way it has been. it looks like they have more compatible hardware now. it used to be only a few linksys routers were compatible.

the WRT54GS v2 is compatible with firmware 3.37.6
I know this because I originally bought a WRT54GS when it came out but returned it because it did not work with XBL. Apparently the v2 now works. -- www.thfx.com |

| Well I'm still skeptical on this one. Not only do to the tone of your reply. But do to the fact that it has been shown many times that equipment not on the "approved list" will in fact work. My thought is that the list your linking is more of a guide to routers Microsoft has tested to work with the XBox.
"like it or not that's the way it has been."
For the record - who said I like or disliked anything. It is a pure stupid business move to make your product only capable of working with other "approved" hardware. I know some companies have made a killing off of keeping their product "closed". But with a gaming product that has internet access for online game play. It's rather short sighted to make a product that only works with limited amount of routers on the market. And it seems even more ignorant. Do to the fact that ( if memory serves me right ) Microsoft partnered with Linksys to make an official connection device.
With that said. As you've noted a simple firmware upgrade seems to rectify the matter. So not that big of a deal. -- Test Your Security Cable Diagnostics Iggyz Blog ZoneAlarm Help |
