English, but even though I lived in Albany, NY I somehow picked up a lot of the vocal mannerisms of a long islander . Only when I talk really fast though , which is almost all the time.
2.5 years of Latin for junior high, can still read/write in it semi-fluently.
A bit of Spanish.
Currently bout a year through with a french course and planning on becoming fluent in it. My dad went there for 3 years and then later got a masters degree in it so I have a good teacher.
I'd like to pick up Polish and German as well since they're the preferred language for my biological family (I'm adopted). I guess that technically makes me only 2nd generation American.
I'm valiantly trying not to pick up the awful hick dialect here in Idaho and so far it's working, except for the very occasional y'all |

| reply to CurtesyFlush kinda long to explain about castellian spanish. Like all world knows, Spanish comes from Spain, but it comes from a part of SPain, a long time (before America was discovered) SPain was divided in 2 parts, Castilla and Aragon, Castellian was born in the Land of Castilla and the story continues.. so Castellian is Spanish, they are the same. |

Not to argue Spanish with a Spaniard , but there is a distinction in pronunciation. I'm sure there are other things as well, but mainly: quote: C -- As in English, before a, o and u it is pronounced as a K, as in can Before e or i the c is pronounced as an s as in cent. In Spain the C before e and i is pronounced 'th'.

| reply to theman23 Having been raised in the old school Catholic tradition where Mass was still said in Latin, I can read the Latin languages and understand, but not speak, what is written. I took 3 years of French in high school, was fluent in it and by the end of the third year, got an opportunity to use it in Paris in 1980 Over the years, having no opportunity to use it, it's pretty much gone. -- Rocky is, was, and always will be Dawg E. Also (other) Slavic languages are popular around here it seems...
I'm not surprised about Spanish... |
