| reply to theman23 Most of my neighbors are Mexican. They don't speak English at all, yet expect the "Anglos" to speak Spanish. I don't mind learning to speak Spanish. What annoys me the most is that they have all obtained a green card. That's Ok! with me too. However, it is my personal belief that if you wish to emigrate to the U.S. than you should at least be able to take a test on American History and recite the National anthem in English and not Spanish, just like every other immigrant that wishes to become an American citizen. -- The electron is not as simple as it looks. |

That is a requirement of citizenship. A green card is the first step towards that, and it takes about 5 years for citizenship to be processed. So they've got time to learn to satisfy the requirements. -- Get your daily dose of wonder from the Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD).

| In England during WW2 there was a government department that was looking for German spies. So, one of the tests was to "prove" that you are an English citizen by singing the anthem. However, if you knew the anthem it only showed to the department that you are more likely to be a spy, since they believed that a normal citizen would not know every word. -- -- Who drank has died, who drinks will die; is he immortal who is sober? -- -- I started out with nothing, I still have most of it -- |
