| Considering Ethiric
I'm in the process of moving, and after finding out that the quoted distance of 14000 to the CO at my new house was really 20000 and so DSL wasn't available, I paniced. Then I searched for wireless ISPs.
Presently my decision is down to Etheric or NextWeb, with leaning very heavily towards Etheric.
But enough on the background. Down to business. I'm renting, and I've already gone through the process of getting the landlord's approval for installing a DirecTV dish. (DirecTV loves drilling holes when they install their dish, but can't beat the new installation cost when you move.) From talking to both Ehteric and NextWeb sales, the impression I get is that they make every effort NOT to drill any holes in your house.
Perhaps someone can chime in with details of how their dish was mounted? I'm in your typical generic house of recent construction, with a few trees about but no tall buildings, and hopefully no trees that are close enough to block LOS. For Etheric, apparently I'll need the 24" dish where I am. I'd also be interested in knowing how securely the dish gets fastened in place if it's installation doesn't involve any new holes. | | fritzs

| Re: Considering Etheric
Etheric came out, climbed up on my roof, said "Yep, I can see Black Mountain from here!" and clamped the antenna to one of those vent pipes that sticks up through the roof. They aligned the antenna, and ran a length of Cat-5 down the side of the building into a cable run that had the TV cable in it.
I told them that I wanted it in a particular room, so they drilled a hole through the wall and sealed the cable into it. The cable plugged in to a small Power over Ethernet adapter, and I was up and running.
They have been easy to work with and have provided rock-solid connectivity.
