| "Special Offer" SPAM from InsightBB
Anyone else a bit unhappy about being SPAMMED from InsightBB?
The recent "Special Offer" is an attempt to sell virus scanning, firewall, etc capability to existing InsightBB customers.
The fact that they are selling this service -on-top- of an already overpriced $45 month (w/o TV) bill is bad enough. That they are willing to SPAM all my email accounts with this offer is worse.
Am I out of line here?
I've been thinking the ~$30 DSL bills have looked enticing. These SPAMS are the things that might motivate a change.

| I'll join you on the unhappy side.
My anti-spam software immediately kicked that email to my deleted documents, where I didn't open it (for fear it contained a 'bug') but perused the header first, noting it was from a marketing firm.
I'm very disappointed in this new 'tactic' from Insight. I would think of switching, however Insight is currently the only game available in my rural area. I'll have to live with them until something else becomes available.
But your right, receiving spam from Insight to my primary e-mail address (which no one but I and insight know about) and all of my sub accounts is very disappointing.:( |

| reply to reverendmoon What is really bad is that this is from a 3rd party marketing firm and not Insight directly meaning a 3rd party has a nice fat address list...can you say future offers(spam)??? Good I knew you can!!
I don't remember "signing" up or "opting" in for bullsh1t from Insight or 3rd parties on their "behalf"...Does anyone else? |
|
  mumbo jumbo
| reply to reverendmoon It wasn't even from Insight. They clearly don't know how to deal with worms, manage their servers, or are just selling us out. See »email servers hacked? which I was going to bump but don't have to now |

@insightBB.com | It was from Insight, quit your whining! Down at the bottom of the email there is a link provided if you don't want to receive notifications from Insight in the future. |

| Vote to ban the whiners. I'm not an employee of Insight, nor am I affiliated in any way. But I do have InsightBB service, and I don't feel that Insight was "out of line". This is my opinion of course, and you obviously have yours.
It's also my choice to not register on this site. But that hardly matters, you will all find something to gripe about. |

| reply to reverendmoon it was from f-secure who is offering the service in conjunction with insight so it essentially from insight because it's only for their package they' re offering through insight. the company i work for also has the same type of agreement with f-secure. f-secure is also a reputable firewall and antivirus vendor and not just some "marketing firm" as someone stated on here. |

| reply to reverendmoon In the same way that this all comes back to insight. That is basically a storefront on their marketing site. they are holding space for f-secure who isthe vendor of the product bearing the insight name. your information has not been sold off to anyone. But i know a lot of people in this forum of late are just dying to find a reason to cry out for a violation on insight's part. so please go ahead with your griping. insight may make some questionable decisions but i doubt they would do something quite frankyl as dumb as blatantly selling your email address to a marketing group which would get them saddled with a lawsuit on top of signifiganct subscriber loss. |

I'm not at all saying that a list was sold but I am saying that a 3rd party potentially has that info...
The sending host is NOT an Insight address hence the reason I am using the term 3rd party...maybe contracted by Insight but NOT Insight..maybe fsecure or whoever, who cares it is a 3RD PARTY!!
Insight is trying to peddle "good's", why not use their own setup for this?
Bottom line is I didn't ask for it IMO it is nothing more than SPAM...It's not the end of the world just kinda sad,I can add that in with the daily identical viagra spam that for some reason makes it through EVERY day...

| reply to reverendmoon Well, The Rev we have to remember many users don't even have a clue the type of stuff Insight is offering can be found for free on the Net. To us knowledgeable users it is SPAM, but to many others it is not SPAM. -- low cost and fast speed is what customers want in broadband |

| reply to reverendmoon This has been a good discussion. Thanks to all who contributed.
I'm still unhappy INSIGHTBB decided it's acceptable target my account with merchandise offers I didn't request. Call it whatever you wish, it's SPAMMING.
»dictionary.reference.com/search?q=spamming
Yes, I agree, this isn't an unforgivable offense which justifies and ISP change. However, when I'm paying $15 more than DSL, I'm understandably less tolerant about these things. My only reasons for continuing with INSIGHTBB is 1)They have been a great ISP 2)I'm too lazy to hassle with changing ISP's.
SPAMMING can be a great motivator though!

I resent that. I use an anony account because I choose to. Registration is just more information I have to apply to cyberspace. It's amazing what personal information you can find on the Internet... |
