| The gear you see on the backhaul page isn't the same as their old backhaul gear. The radio power is only 13dBm on the new radios listed on the page vs. 20dBm for the old radios. It's basically their AP/CPE equipment with software that allows PtP. So while it is cheaper, it's also lower power. |

| reply to VariableARK They have amped versions that are a lot more expensive but with similar power. I have no idea why they made the change or why they no longer list the 5800 series on their website. Makes the upcoming 400mW Mikrotik radios look a whole lot better! Honestly this is the direction I was expecting Tranzeo to take when the higher powered cards became available. |

Why is it that when CO's get something right, they have to $%#! with it, and screw it up?. The 5800 series radios were a decent piece of gear, while simple to operate and not a lot of bells and whistles, I liked them. Oh well, it just makes other CO's gear look that much better? -- »www.wavecrazy.net Join WISPA today! »www.wispa.org/ |

| Well it was out of there hands.
They got notice they would not be receiving any more boards from Europe. (They knew this was coming eventually).
So they started their new line with a California manufacturer. So far they said its been great. Actuall thruput = 28MB+ as compared to 22MB.
I'm going to order a couple of pairs and see how they do, we were using a lot of the 5821 series........ |

If they work, they could be a nice little inexpensive setup.

| reply to VariableARK Re: new tranzeo gear -- I have experience with it
I have some experience with this gear, and boy is it bad. I bought it because "super dog" likes the older version, but alas what a mess.
I got 2 tr5a24f for backhaul on a tower where I want to free up a 2.4 channel. In testing on the ground on a weekend, I could only get it to work in ad-hock mode, but I gave them both public IPs and put them up since I was hot to find out about link quality. Best connection I could get on a 3-4 mile link was -72 or so, which was pretty disappointing. I started running a ping graph between the units to assess latency, and found even when they are carrying no traffic they had lots of long spells with very long ping times in the 800ms range.
I noticed a newer version of firmware on their web site, and upgraded one unit and while it kept passing traffic, the User Interface was no longer accessible. I called their tech support and talked with Rod, and he had me try their locator software. No good. So he tried upgrading the other end, and that one went belly up too. They promised to ship me replacements, but never did even with several reminder calls and even though I was paying till the returns came in. Finally I called and asked for an RMA and refund. They transferred me to sales and Tony promised to get the replacements shipped, which to his credit he did. They arrived today
It looks like one of the units is DOA, its user interface is not accessible. This is way too familiar. I should also mention that their tech support people, while nice on the phone frequently fail to answer questions, get things shipped, in general to deliver solutions.
I also bought 3 of their tr-6000s to use as APs, but they use the same firmware it looks like to me, so I think the most prudent thing is to return the whole mess for refund.
This was a huge disappointment to me, I really wanted this gear to work. These problems have delayed me for a month and I have an immediate need. Is there any other relatively inexpensive gear available for 5.8 backhaul?

aye, i was trying to decide between tranzeo and mikrotik for backhaul, and i think this switched me over to mikrotik for sure then. too bad, i was delayed almost a month after a 5821 was DOA. but i learned my lesson, from now on i am stick to what i know and trust. mikrotik for backhauls. nl2611s for aps and nl2611sw/rootennas for cpe. that is the winning combo for me anymore. |

| reply to VariableARK We are using Tranzeo's new TR-5amp-32f. We had a couple of issues with the first 5 radios ie: firmware, timming but problems were resolved. We are seeing over 10MBit full duplex on a 20Mile shot running in PxP mode and 18MBit full duplex on a 10Mile shot. When the first link came up my jaw hit the floor. |

Tranzeo makes full duplex radios???. That news to me?. If They do, that great, but I had no knowledge of it? -- »www.wavecrazy.net Join WISPA today! »www.wispa.org/ |

| reply to VariableARK I have a 2.8 mile link using these that I just installed last night. The link uses 2 tr-5a-24f. I tested it with a HTTP download and am getting 800KB/Sec, but I wasn't finished aligning.
I had major problems with the link until I upgraded the software to their latest version on their website. I had the same problem with their TR-6000 - poor link quality, dropped packets, etc.. After upgrading on both of them all seems well. |
