| DSL Still needs to fix its distance issues!
It is possible, to push DSL out further then 3.5 Miles from the CO. IDSL can do it why not ADSL? I know DSL is gonna go by-by in 20 years, but we need some deployment. I know you can push DSL out past 18k ft, you could probably push it to 30k feet. Just look at all these speed tiers, take Verizon for an example, 3.0/768 to 14k Ft, and 1.5 to 18k feet, Couldn't you push 768k, to 24k ft? C'mon seriously, Signal just doesn't magically disapear after 18k ft, now does it? I know they can push it out the distance its just they dont want to. Like Verizon knows IDSL can go to 50k ft but limits it it 18k ft, Why? Answer: They dont give ashit, even though they could make a killing off its pricing.
As for people saying 1.5 is slow, or 768k is slow. You're joking right? I'll give you my 40k Dial up for a week and you'll know whats slow. C'mon guys get me some DSL! |

Amen brother! I've had satellite so-called broadband for 3 years now. Centurytel has yet to get DSL to my neighborhood. I think they are putting up more RT's in the nearby cities for higher tiers and are not worried about the small neighborhoods. -- WinXP_Home SP2, 1.8GHz P4, 512DDR, DAK421_P15, DW4000 Two-Way, SRS, SatMex5, 1130MHz, Proxy on, DrTCP. |

| reply to FTCXtreme as usual you make an ass of yourself.... if they COULD do that dont you think they would? if DSL could provide maximum speeds as long as you were connected to a CO or remote then they would REALLY begin to rip in to cable's customers and they would make a killing.... its just that the technology isnt there yet and the new ADSL variants arent that hot imo.... still limited by 1mbit upload and the distance limitations are still bad for nextgen stuff |

| reply to FTCXtreme Any suggestions on getting a DSL provider to give you service beyond the standard 18,000 feet?
I'm at 21,000' from one CO, and 26,000' from another CO. Cable and Wireless are not available at my location. I set up an appointment for IDSL, but at $100/month for 144/144, I would prefer to take my chances with marginal, yet cheaper DSL.
Thanks for you suggestions. |
