[VA] *** SPEED INCREASES IN THE VERY NEAR FUTURE ***

Cox in northern, VA will be offering the following services in the very very near future:

Preferred HSI customers speeds will be increasing from 4MB/566Kb to 5MB/2MB - with no price increase!! Speeds will happen automatically!! If you already have cable TV service, your price will be 39.95 - without will be $54.95!!

Now for the awsome news!! All Premier customers speeds will increase from 5MB/756Kb to 15MB/2MB - again with no price increase!! The premier service, with existing cable TV service will still be $54.95!! Again, this will be happening automatically...!!

I know that this price is still 5 dollars more than Verizon's service, but there is NO CONTRACT to sign with Cox's HSI or cable services. If you don't like the service after installation, then you can disconnect and not have a balance for the rest of the year!! With Verizon's latest HSI service there is a 1 to 2 year commitment. Did anyone know that....???

We'll be waiting for your phone calls...

Proof of this 1 to 2 year commitment with Verizon?

Also how is the speed increase going to solve all the lousy routing and ping times Cox has? It is just going to make it worse. When Cox increased the upload from 256 to 512 it's been down hill since then, I don't even want to think about what a 2 meg upload will do.

I just had Cox 4/512 service up until recently, routing was lousy and the ping times have been increasing steadily. Peak times it's even worse, I do not see how increasing speeds is going to cure all that, unless Cox is planning on a DOCSIS upgrade.

I will have to take that with 4 grains of salt as I believe it is a hoax. Because if they released speeds like that in just one area. Everybody else would be rioting. I know that in my area with having discussions with the local techs. Speeds like that can happen as the equipment and lines can handle it.

It will be interesting to see if Cox abandons it's [almost] nation-wide speed tiers to "counter" FTTH on a region-by-region basis. (or even node-by-node as FTTH gradually rolls-out within any given region)

After all, DSL has been priced this way for a long time -- if you are closer the CO, or have newer/better wiring ... the faster your DSL connection can be ... but you'll be charged more if you elect for the faster option(s).

What is FTTH? Is that like FIOS?
Also is Cox increasing their speeds? Or is that guy crapping in our ears?

There's no way this can be true...but if it does happen, all the better!

I would say that you might want to go to the store and buy some salt and qtip's as its most likely a false statment. I have already put my hip waders on cause its kinda deep in here.

I would almost think its a post from somebody that used to have Cox HSI and felt they were not getting the service they should have and has jumped ship to another ISP and is now trying to get everybody excited just to burst their bubble.

FTTH = Fiber To The Home. (Generic Term)

FIOS = Verizon's FTTH product (i.e. FIOS is a Verizon marketing term)

I'm sure Cox will increase speeds ... and probably in the near future ...

... but I'm also sure that guy's not a legit Cox rep; I seriously doubt that he has any "insider info"; and I suspect -- like Plasticman See Profile -- that he's just trying to "stir things up" a bit.

I wish cox would, if they do increase the speeds to that (Not let the pings get high) I will climb the state capital here in Baton Rouge and shout I love Cox with a megaphone.

Here's the appropriate amount of salt for this post...

In this case, as Cox usually installs the improvements before making any announcements, "seeing is believing". Until then, I'll consider the original post to be a poor attempt at humor.

I would have to agree with BBR_InsUW in this...no proof so far about any increases. I asked a tech that was driving by in my area and he said he had no clue what I was talking about. But then again...this post says Near Future...so duh nothing stays the same..but when is the question

First of all he's not even a member
Second where are his SOURCES?
Yes it would piss the rest of us off if only Road Island got the speed increases.

Hopefully Cox will remove the caps too and deal with the hoggers on a 1 to 1 bases without spoiling it for all of us.

I was the one who posted that original message... I am a HSI internet support specialist at Cox in Herndon. My source is a memo that I received yesterday that stated what I posted regarding the speeds and pricing.

Everyone needs to just be a little pateint. Some people in NOVA have experienced speeds in upwards of 25 to 30 meg in test that we've been doing. Cox is well aware of what Verizon is trying to do. They've been losing their DSL customers in exchange for our speeds...and they're losing their phone customers as well!!

Everyone just hang tight...it'll be here soon...
