| 2 cable modems
Hi,
I was reading a recent post in this forum where someone stated that if you have two modems and one gets near the monthly limit - simply switching modems would not keep you under the limit because Rogers ties your account to your MAC address. A solution was posted that one can change their MAC address to adress the issue. I can't seem to find this thread anywhere.
Can someone provide a link to this thread or provide some help so that you can actually get twice as much download with 2 modems??
thanks. |

| I don't believe this is possible. Rogers do associate your account to your MAC ID of your modem. This is to prevent anything like this from happening. When I switched to extreme and exchanged modems, I had to get them to change the MAC ID at their end to the new modem MAC ID in order for it to work (connect). You can't just change modems with Rogers service and expect it to connect. Here is some info that might give you a better understanding of valid MAC IDs as reguards to an account. »Cable Modems and Wiring Issues »If I copy a Valid MAC address in my Router could I get free service? |

| Sorry, perhaps I wasn't clear. I actually have two extreme accounts hooked up to separate networks. One account downloads quite a bit more than the other and comes close to the download limit each month. I simply want to switch modems when I get near the limit but someone had suggested that switching the modems actually won't help - I believe it was stated that Rogers ties the MAC address of your computer to each of your accounts??
It would be helpful if someone could simply provide the link to the previous thread that discussed this - I have searched for it but can't find it........ |

| I don't know if it helps. I have 2 SB5100 in 1 house (with -3 and -5 signal), the IP is assigned based on the MAC of the network card, so even if I switch modem on the same computer I would still get the same IP address. I can't really measure usage because they are all shared by different people and I can't disconnect them to do tests, since they are d/l at 5-10k/s 24/7 |
