NewDot~1 and network

I discovered that Newdot~1 crept on to my system (XP) 2 days ago. The firewall was destroyed and I lost the internet connection because of missing DLL. I've removed Newdot~1 manually from the registry. I can access my cable connection through my Desktop. My problem is I had a wireless Network. I thought the issue might be with router so I returned it for a new one. I still cannot get the network running because it will not recognize the router. I think this is more of an operating issue because of the Newdot~1.

Does anyone have any information on Newdot~1 that might help correct this issue?

Thanks in advance

If you don´t correctly remove the file, you can damage the Layered Service Provider (LSP).

Try this tool to repair your winsock.

New.Net or NewDot.Net should only be removed via add/remove programs or you you could damage your system. It removes very easily with add/remove.

Hope that helps.

Read this on another forum.

The following is long winded but it does work. Comes from NewDotNet.
Uninstalling NewDotNet
There are several simple procedures for uninstalling NewDotNet. These procedures require you to have the
NewDotNet uninstaller on your machine.
1. Uninstall via "Add/Remove Programs".
2. Uninstall by directly running the NewDotNet uninstall program on your computer.
3. Download the NewDotNet uninstall program to floppy (from any computer) and use this copy to remove
NewDotNet.
If you complete any of our uninstall procedures and are still having problems, please contact our Customer
Support Department and we’ll be happy to confirm that NewDotNet is off of your system. However, as you are
probably aware, many things can cause problems on your computer and we will not be able to resolve all of
them.
PROCEDURE 1 (Add/Remove Programs):
Click on Start.
Click on Settings.
Click on Control Panel.
From the Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove Programs.
Click on the Install/Uninstall tab in the Add/Remove Programs Properties window.
Locate either New.net Application or New.net Domains and select it.
Click on the Add/Remove button.
After removal of our software, you may be prompted to reboot. Please reboot after removing our software.
If this does not fully remove our software, please proceed to PROCEDURE 2.
PROCEDURE 2 (Uninstall from Hard Drive):
Double-click on My Computer.
Double-click on the C: drive.
Double-click on the Program Files folder.
Locate and double-click on the NewDotNet folder. If there is no folder, please proceed to PROCEDURE 3.
Locate and double-click on the uninstall executable; it will be labeled uninstallX_XX.exe. (“X” represents the
version number of the uninstaller and you should always use the latest version)
After removal of our software, you may be prompted to reboot. Please reboot after removing our software.
If this does not fully remove our software, please proceed to PROCEDURE 3.
PROCEDURE 3 (Locate Backup Copy of Uninstaller and Uninstall from Hard Drive):
Double-click on My Computer.
Double-click on the C: drive.
Double-click on the Windows or Winnt folder.
Locate and double-click on the uninstall executable; it will be labeled NDNuninstallX_XX.exe. ("X" represents
the version number of the uninstaller)
After removal of our software, you may be prompted to reboot. Please reboot after removing our software.
f this does not fully remove our software, please proceed to PROCEDURE 4.
PROCEDURE 4 (Download Uninstall from New.net):
From a computer that has Internet access, click on the following link:
Download and save uninstall6_34.exe to a 3-½ floppy disk.
Insert the floppy disk into the floppy drive of the computer that needs to have our software uninstalled from.
Click on Start.
Click on Run.
In the Open window type, A:\uninstall6_34.exe.
Click on the OK button.
After removal of our software, you may be prompted to reboot. Please reboot after removing our software.

Thank you for your response. I've tried all the suggestions. Nothing seems to work ;-( Adaware and Spybot did not find this on my system. I discovered it under MSconfig ~ startup. I still don't know how I got the dang thing. I haven't a clue what to do other than re-install XP.

I appreciate that you took the time to help me on this.

Several more things you can try. I would suggest you disconnect from the net and in ZA uncheck start on boot, then reboot before you try these steps.

At the command prompt type the command below

netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt

»support.microsoft.com/kb/299357

If that doesn't work you can try deleting the winsock keys, that solved it for someone else who had this problem. See Microsoft KB article below for what to delete.

Thanks for all of your suggestions. I tried each and every one of them but nothing worked ;-( I re-installed XP and I still can't get stuff working for the network. Ain't life grand? {{{grin}}}} I'll try the linksys forum and see if they have any ideas.

Thanks again! I really appreciate all the help.
