| [General] Help with SBC Yahoo DSL speed
Hi
Yesterday my Cousin activated his SBC Yahoo dsl service, after installing everything I told him to visit this site and to check his download and upload speed. He says his download speed is 165KB/s and upload speed is 39KB/s. Ok then I asked him to check his CO distance and said the website told him it was 12999Ft away. He is paying $19.95 and his zip code is 95118
I on the other hand have had DSL service for 5 years now and I'm closer to the CO with a distance of about 12768FT and I'm only getting 40KB/s DOWN and 40KB/s UP!! I think it's capped because when I start a download the speed goes all the way up to 176KB/s but then falls back to just 40KB/s. I'm paying $29.95 and my zip code is 95127.
My Cousin signed up for SBC Yahoo DSL Express package and he is getting that speed, I'm amazed! I don't know what package I have because I ordered it when it was Pacbell 5 years ago back then I don't think they had packages.
My question is if I call customer service and ask if they can uncap my download speed because I'm only getting 40KB/s down and my Cousin is getting 165KB/s down and I threaten them with disconnecting my service and switching to cable, will they listen? You know I've been a loyal customer for 5 years!
Please advice! Thanks

| That does seem like a "cap" issue......more like a problem on the line that is causing such download readings. Best way to test is to call Tier 2, ask what is the "max" speed. Than try to connect at the "main phone box" for your place, call tier 2 and ask again what your "Max" is. That will give you and idea as to where the problem could be........Or get a hold of one of the guys at the SBC direct forum, They know what they are doing!!! |
