Any questions?
Oh yeah - it's disabled by default in 10.4.0. You will need to launch the Quartz Debug app included in the Developer Tools (Developer->Applications->Performance Tools->Quartz Debug) and choose "Enable Quartz 2-D Extreme" from the menu, and then LEAVE QUARTZ DEBUG OPEN, and re-launch any app that you want to have Quartz 2-D Extreme active (recommendation: all of them).
The above information taken from John Siracusa's FABULOUS essay on Tiger
at »arstechnica.com/reviews/os/macosx-10.4.ars/
which is a must-read IMHO. EDIT: There is a table above the chart. Click to enlarge. |

Maybe it's time for a graphics card upgrade. |
|
JohnnyPremium join:2001-06-27 Atlanta, GA kudos:1 | Oh yeah, well it's time to post the supported video cards
- ATI Radeon 9600 or better - nVidia 5200 go or better
And for anyone choosing a video card, go for the maximum VRAM; don't worry about wasting your money on "speed" of the card if you can spend the same or less money for the VRAM. |

JohnnyPremium join:2001-06-27 Atlanta, GA kudos:1 | reply to RDG said by RDG:Why is it disabled by default? According to Siracusa, Apple won't say; he speculates that it may not quite be completely tested. But we've (ADC members) been testing it for months, so I dunno.
What I wasn't able to test was the "fallback", when it hits weird OpenGL commands for particular video cards or when the virtual VRAM system gets stressed, and it has to switch to the Panther (software) method for 2-D.
But it has always been fine here since at least the last 5 builds. The window resizing is amazing. |

I've been trying to hunt down a Radeon 9600 or 9800 to replace my 9000 in the MDD, but so far every one I've seen says it only works in a G5. The G4 cards seem to have vanished... |

rjacksonPremium,Mod join:2002-04-02 Ringgold, GA kudos:1 | Yeah, unfortunately I'm screwed since my display is an ADC Studio CRT. And a lot of the G5 cards that have been "modded" to work on the G4s don't have working ADC ports anymore. |

teachPremium join:2000-09-21 Denver, CO | nice link JJ. it seems like some windows users are getting upset at the same thing some apple users are in these new os's. I am going to rant here and it's not towards you, lol. I understand that tiger and the next cat are building on the future os and the hardware will improve also but I find it daunting that ichat is in reality a lesser program than ispq, ivisit, etc...okay the quality of the vid in ichat using an isight is wonderful and stunning but that's it. appleworks? where the heck is the new appleworks, lol. (no one please say, it's iworks). oh I forgot, it's in the hands of some 3rd party developer that will make it what apple should have for half the price. I could go on and on, well not to much, lol. it just seems like with every other "update" we will need to buy the latest computer. apple is a hardware company, lol. it's sad that my old performa, that I gave up for this wonderful piece of art called the cube, ran os 9 snappier than any os x version on this upgraded cube and whatever happened to the vaunted alteveck( I just killed the spelling) that the os never seemed to use? yes, the 2 os's are different but the point is during it's time os 9 was the bomb, lol. I better end this before I go on a real rant, lol.
again JJ nice link, I almost fell over when I saw the stated requirements for longhorn, lol. -- The fascination of shooting as a sport depends almost wholly on whether you are at the right or wrong end of the gun.P. G. Wodehouse |

Once you have opened an application with the debugger open, and q-2d-e enabled, will the applications still have it enabled, even though the debugger is closed?
Thanks |
