| Tiger's Spotlight vs. LaunchBar
Much of the hype about Tiger seems to revolve around Spotlight. A nice little utility that goes into action when you type Command/Space and with a few keystrokes will provide a list of files, folders, applications, URLs, etc. that have the characters you type.
Excuse me! I have been using LaunchBar for years and it works exactly the same way and seems to be just as fast and maybe a tad faster then Spotlight. The only difference is that Spotlight comes with Tiger that costs $150 Cnd, and Spotlight (version 4) costs around $20!
The nice thing is that LaunchBar is highly intuitive and will list items in a very smart way according to how you use your computer. I don't know whether Spotlight can do this as well as LaunchBar.

| reply to The Geezer Spotlight is more than just a little app in your menubar. Developers are able to implement it in any application. For example, in Mail, you can create smart folders that can seamlessly interface with the rest of the OS. -- You're so vain... I bet you think this post is about you. |

| reply to The Geezer I had this same argument with a friend of mine about this same issue, he was one of the lucky ones that received his Tiger last week.
From what I saw, the reason why Launchbar is faster than Spotlight is because ...
1. Spotlight looks through ever type of file, document, and apps. For instance if you were looking for the word "porn", it'll search your entire computer for the one word and show where and what type of file that word is mention. Now that's something Launchbar won't do.
2. This the one that actually bugs me, so if I get flamed, whatever. As soon as you start typing it starts it's search. For instance when I type the letter "p" for porn, it'll search the entire computer for anything that matches "p" and so on as I start typing the rest of the word out.
I don't think Launchbar has that type of power search like Spotlight. Now if I wanted to quickly open an app then I would use Launchbar over Spotlight. |

| Just to be clear, it's not actually searching your HD when you start typing. It's drawing from an index that is constantly updated. So, when you start to type "p" it's not using a lot of resources or anything to start its search before you get to the next letter and it can narrow its results. -- Smart Marketing |

Perhaps spotlight isn't as good as LaunchBar (I haven't used either), but the conclusion of yours I quoted is still erroneous.
