Conflict of interest

To be honest if SBC is paying for open add space Comcast should be playing the ads. The advertising segment of the cable companies should be separate from the political side. I see satellite service ads all the time on cable channels. That's definitely giving the competition ad space. What makes this different?

This is the sort of thing that screams of censorship. If they decide not to run ads because it's against their agenda what is going to stop them from doing things like not running ads for politicians they don't agree with? No ads for other companies they compete with (directly or indirectly)? No ads for movies they don't like?

Re: Conflict of interest

The difference is, they're required to run ads by political candidates. But they can sell they're ad space to whomever they please. Most satelite ads you see are probably run by local channels or network ad space, which, as a previous poster mentioned is still available to SBC.

I'll tell you what makes it different. It's the current "Hot button topic" of contention between the cableco's and the telco's. It's the same thing as why one older brother teases a younger brother over something totally insignificant. ;>
