| Can DSS 5+ Have A Printer Connected To It?
I have a D-Link dss 5+ switch that is in an office that is being used to share the one ethernet connection. Can I have my PC connected to the switch along with my HP 4300 Printer connected to the switch and share the printer across the rest of my network. I am running Win 2003 Server along with about 20 Client pc's with XP Pro.
I can't find the HP4300 on any of the client pc's or on the pc that is connected to the same switch? Any Ideas?

Assuming you have an internal Jetdirect printserver card fitted, then it's just a question of configuring the device for TCP/IP and using the Add Printer wizard.
The LaserJet 4300 can use either the Jetdirect 610n or 615n printserver. For example, find the 615n manual here: »h200001.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/supp···7159.pdf
What you are trying to do is illustrated in the figure on p7.
If you don't have the setup CD which came with the Jetdirect card, see this page: »h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/Te···bpj07116
I recommend that you: - reset the printer + network card to factory defaults - give the printer a static IP address - test you can connect to it and print to it when directly connected to the PC - test you can print to it when connected to the switch - configure it for network printing with the print queue on the W2k3 server - set up and test on each PC
Hope this helps |

| Right! Posted it over here in case the people in the Networking forum are unfamiliar with the D-Link DSS 5+.
