| [wireless] WRT54G cannot access setup page I just purchased the WRT54G to replace a Netgear product that I was having problems with. The setup went well and I was able to quickly connect to the internet. For some strange reason, I cannot access the setup page after the inital install. I'm using the WRT54G as an access point. It's connected to a SMC switch which is connected to a wired Netgear router. I've disabled DHCP and I've left the iP addy at the default 192.168.1.1. Both Firefox and IE time out everytime I try to connect to the IP number. The only time I can connect is after a hard reset, but once I exit the setup I cannot return to it. Any ideas as to what the problem might be? I have no problems connecting to the internet. Thanks. | |

| Re: [wireless] WRT54G cannot access setup page If the main routers IP is the same you'll never get to the WRT setup pages. If the main router is on a different subnet that will make all the PC on that subnet and you won't get to the WRT pages. Please read this and start over. »Method for using a wireless router as AP -- Shooter Ready--Stand By BEEP ******** | |

| Re: [wireless] WRT54G cannot access setup page Thank you for the reply.
Both routers have different IP's, and different subnets. The wired router has a range of 192.168.0.2 to 192.168.100. The WRT54G starts at 192.168.1.1. Both have the same DNS. When I try to change the WRT54G subnet to get it within range of the wired router it locks up and I can't access it. I have to reset the router (again) to get to the setup page. It's probably a simple solution but I just can't figure it out. This is not the first AP I've set up, it's just the first one I've had a problem with.

All this is covered in the link I posted. I have been using a WRT as just a AP for about 2 years. -- Shooter Ready--Stand By BEEP ********

That's okay, I'm still getting a decent Internet connection without any dropouts. If I need to make any changes I'll just have to reset the router. Thanks for your help.

| Re: [wireless] WRT54G cannot access setup page When you change the IP address of the WRT it really isn't freezing. you are changing it to a subnet that is not on the PC that it is connected to. So you need to reboot the PC. If you have also disabled the DHCP server in the WRT then you will need to assign a static IP to the PC in the same range for it to connect to the WRT.
From the link I posted. Now once you change the routers IP address you will loose the connection to the wireless router, that's OK. Type in the new IP address of the router in the address bar of IE. This will bring you back to the routers setup pages. Find the section that controls the DHCP server and disable it. You are now done changing all the setting on the wireless router. -- Shooter Ready--Stand By BEEP ********

| Re: [wireless] WRT54G cannot access setup page I finally got it going. After I changed and saved the WRT's new IP address, I disconnected the laptop I used to set it up (ignoring any error messages). I then rebooted the WRT and after that the wired router. I then was able to connect to the WRT's new IP addy from another computer connected to the wired router. I did this without having to reset the WRT. Guess I didn't realize that I had to do so many reboots for the configurations to take. It was a bit of a dance, but it worked.
