| [Mp3] IPod Mini vs Dell Dj vs something else?
OK, I've read through quite a few threads here and done some research elsewhere online. I am comparing an IPod mini vs a Dell Dj , similar models, similar pricing although I like the DJ at the cheaper price. This is a gift idea for the wifey. Now it comes down to this: we run long distances (3-6 miles or more), is either of these two units too bulky/heavy/clumsy to use while running? I was thinking of giving this to her so she can listen while running. Anyone have experience with this? Or should I look at the smaller units (like the rio)? Inquiring minds want to know. -- »www.dvd-dweeb.com |

| For exercise that involves some sort of impact flash-based players are generally better than HD-based players (like the mini and DJ) as they are smaller, lighter, and have no moving parts. The mini has 32MB of buffer (I imagine the Dell has a similar amount), but even so, a jolt at the wrong time could kill the drive. |

| I don't agree. if you don't drop them - and there are loads of jogging-with-your-ipod belt/arm/whatever clips - then they are fine.
The disk only seeks once every minute or less, and for a second, so if you are a klutz and drop them you have a good chance it will be fine. Jumping around with one in your hand is not sufficient g force to make the read head hit the disk. |

| Well the risk of the HD mp3 player falling is very high if you participate in physical activities and if the HD player is dropped a very high risk that something bad will happen to the extremely delicate hard drive. Yet if a flash based player is dropped most likely nothing will happen. Plus HD based players are pretty hefty when you are exercising or whatever. -- I love Metal! |

| reply to goudaboy Thanks for all the input guys, I see your points about dropping etc. My heart stops when my cell phone hits the floor, I dont want to see a $200 device go to pieces on the pavement either. I will probably go with a flash player instead, most likely the Rio as it has the expansion slot. -- »www.dvd-dweeb.com |

| reply to goudaboy I have a dell dj, and I have no problem with it. If you have a bull dog case for the DELL DJ, you'll be fine running. Or get a rhino case. Either way just slip it in your pocket, it'll be fine (for me anyways) -- Please visit my website.»techicex.net |

| reply to goudaboy I own a dell dj 1st gen 20gig and found it to be quite heavy when working out and the fear of dropping it. I bought an Iriver 256 meg flash player. very compact and light. It's the older 100 series.

I use the dell dj for the Car mostly now. -- It is not our abilities that make us what we are...it is our choices |
