Post your animal!

I'm starting an animal thread!

1. Pic obviously
2. Name, and why you chose it
3. Repeat for other pets.

That's April. Telling this part of the story always makes me sad because I love to death this kitty. I finally persuaded my mom to take me to the animal aid. As we got there we saw this pretty white kitty leaving, oh well, kitty would get dirty. I really liked this black cat with a white patch named star. But my mom absolutely loved this ginger thing running at light speed around the room, and the fact that he jumped right into her arms. So I just let her pick that one. Well first, the vet there tells us my cat is a girl named Enticer. Okay, my mom can't say that name (chinese family). So we just adopt her and bring her home. I'm thinking of a million names, Chandra (x-ray observatory because April used to run like that fast), Astro. Finally I thought of April. Fits well, he was born then and supposedly a girl. I bring him to the vet for his first shot, congratulations it's a guy. We had a good laugh for a while. Anyways, that's how he got his name, and why it's a girls name. This is him lying typically, right in the middle of the living room floor, catching his catnap. He must have grown tired of scaring himself in a mirror. (he's not the brightest cat in the world, he once got himself stuck behind the Tv cabinet).

Not knowing a thing about cameras, this was taken with a Canon A40, with settings I can't remember anymore.

my alien dogs
The fat one is Chester. We didn't pick the name, he was found by an animal rescue org and they named him.
The Golden is Simba, named because she reminded us of the Lion King when she was a puppy.

Everybody knows Bear...or just about everybody. He's been posted here a few times before for the past 5 years. He's our love of 15, going on 16 years. He's a Blue Tonkinese, as wonderful breed. He has owned us and cherished us since he was able to leave his sisters at 16 weeks. He has many ailments now as he grows older, but so do we, and he takes care of us wonderfully well, respecting our aging process.

Btw., I almost posted my hubby. He's such an animal!

Nick-Aspen-Baron sledding
One on the left (gray/white blue eye) is Nick. We adopted him in April of 2002 from a shelter in the city. Wife and I had been talking about Siberians for awhile do to one of my friends have one and I just loved the breed. So we she caved in to me and hasn't looked back sense.

Then we started volunteering with a siberian rescue and the rest is well how we got the other two;)

Middle one is Aspen we adopted her a few days after christmas 2003. We were fostering her for 4 months do to another foster family not being able to let the husband get near her. For some reason she was scared of him.

In general she is scared of people especially crowds and anyone knew. Her little was abused and the rescue took them all in she was 2nd to worse as far as people issues go. Getting better every day but still has issues.

At first I didn't think we would ever keep Aspen because she was having the same issue with me as the other home. As time grew on she came to trust me and I began to fall in love with her personalty. Wife already did a week after we had her...off course know issues with my wife:(

Well during December we talked about it and decided it was time to foster fail.

Well then we just fostered Baron the one on the right for 2 weeks. With in a few days my wife wanted to adopt him but I made her wait 2 weeks. Well not really came home and the adoption papers will all filled out and waiting for me to sign .

We had been looking for a third dog for awhile. Baron is a special case. His owner had alztimers and had to go into a hospital and we took him along with mom and some siblings, well the group did. Baron is blind in both eyes complete loss of sight. 5 months ago there was a wire sticking out of the kennel and he walked right into, destroying the one eye. Then about 3.5 months ago his other eye the retina became detattached. The lady didn't catch in time so their wasn't a chance to repair the eye. We contacted some specialists in chicago and WI and they said nothing could be done.

Don't be fooled though. He could care less that he is blind. Goes up and down stairs fine now plays with the other two. Gets up on furniture and loves to be a lap dog

Oh the bottom picture is of Nick, Aspen and me sledding.

wanted to name her killer, but look at her. She's very sweet and playful. I sugested name Cookie (old friend had a dog name Cookie).

Tigger and mittens have been in quite a few of my shots. Both saved from the pound and merged as a family a few years ago. The kids named both of them, though they seem appropriate.

My baby Duchess.

I chose that name because my other dogs name is Duke. So Duke and Duchess

And here are my 2 cats.

The cream colored one is Demon because of his red eyes and the other is named Ozzy because ever since he was little he liked to suck on demons neck LOL. So I remembered Ozzy and the dove incident

Love the pictures, they're all great shots and adorable too!

Here's some more of my cat. Sorry I haven't got them all facied up and in focus like yours

The dark one is from an old Canon SLR that my dad got me for my 12th birthday that I never really used.

edit: neat, didn't know camera info was embedded in the picture

Hey gdm. How much does it cost to take care of one of those? I'm looking to get a dog like that in the near future! Problem is finding one to adopt, if I find one I'll probably go for it.

Doesn't cost much at all just like any other dog. We just give these guys higher foods. Like Eukanuba, Diamond, Redpaw, etc. These guys don't eat alot they are very well trained athletic dogs. My female gets 2 cups a day, Nick gets 1.5 and baron gets 2.5 right now to put some weight on him.

Big thing with siberians is they can never ever be off leash unless they are contained. They have a VERY high prey drive and people of thought they can be trained to stay/obey off leash outside. Well they were wrong and the dogs end up running away or getting hit by a car.

If you want more info, I can go into TONS of details, IM me and we can talk about. Also if you tell me where you I can probably get some contact info for you.

This is Oreo doing what he does best. I got him two and a half years ago, and since he knew his name, I didn't see any reason to change it. A very tolerant and good natured buddy.

First picture is Mason, aka MayMay, mutt rescued from Anchorage Animal Control shortly after the death of our beloved Rocky. Although he is a family dog, he goes everywhere with me in my truck, except to work. He knows I'm the fun parent. The second picture just tickles me to no end. Mason was about 4 months old, he had done well with potty training and I was testing him to see if he was ready to be left home alone and outside his crate. I came home to no potty accidents, but this shredded pillow. Rather than be mad at Mason, I laughed and took this picture. I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall as he removed the feathers from this pillow. Pure puppy enthusiasm. I wasn't too pleased when clean-up of the mauled pillow took five hours. After this incident it was another month of crate training before he graduated to full run of the house.

Mason's name comes from Mason Sand as used in bricklaying. All our dogs have been named after aggregate products, ie Rocky, D1, D2, Sandy, etc.

Other pictures of Rocky & Mason are in Coolerpets.
Animals not shown, 15 large aquariums (55-125 gallons) of tropical fish, and a green-cheeked conure named Hawkeye that died in 2004 at the age of 21.
--
Rocky is, was, and always will be Dawg E. Dawg. Miss you, pal.
